Leather damage fixed on warranty?

Sorry it's been a while since I've been on, but wanted to let people know that I had a surprisingly useful trip to the dealers.

I spotted the start of some minor cracking on the right side bolster of my beige leather seats the other week. Suffice to say I wasn't impressed since the car is only 2 years old and has only done c.12k miles and this part of the seat shouldn't experience high wear and tear. I took it to the dealers to look at and made the same points and to my surprise they agreed. They have now order the parts to replace the leather under warranty and this should be done in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping that they replace the whole upper seat cover, as I have some seatbelt wear, which I admit is my fault.

I thought that they would at least put up a fight to say it was normal wear and tear but no they took it on the chin for once. So if you spot the same damage on your seats, it's well worth taking it in to sort out under warranty.

Hope this proves useful.

Good result, someone else had the seat covers replaced due to this and said it looked terrible afterwards. In fact so bad that they decided to trade the car when they came to the end of their agreement although had all been for keeping it before.

Just hope your seats look better than his did. Unfortunately technicians are best dealing with electronics, oil changes etc and not so great at fitting seat covers where as an upholster would be better choice but that would cost BMW extra money to get someone in to do it.

I managed to get the seat base cover replaced under goodwill on my E87. It was just outside of the 3 year warranty. Seemed to be more common fault on it do took my evidence in. Anyway they replaced without too much fuss and did a good job in replacing. Like all these it depends on the tech doing the work.

Dealer will probably replace upper front seat cover. I experienced an issue with leather cracks on the E93's front seats after 2 years of ownership and the dealer replaced both upper front seat covers with no issues or arguments.

Geez, that's a tad worrying Angie4m. Colour match hopefully shouldn't be an issue but can imagine that if they don't fit it well, it can have that baggy look. Will have a close inspection once it's done before accepting the work. Thanks for the warning.

I had the cost of the option £1700, after the belts kept darkening the Alcantara AND they replaced the coverings. When its first done it looks iffy but it settles quickly

That was me, they initially did an awful job of replacing the seat rear cover. After much pressing they eventually made the work presentable but I'd lost my mojo for the car and traded it for another. I don't have the same passion for the new car even though it's quicker and am unlikely to replace it with a third. So you could say that the poor repair has ultimately turned me away from the bmw brand. And we currently own three!

£1700! Saw you coming. My mate was advised of seat wear at the 4 year 'inspection' and the quoted £600 fitted per seat.

I'm glad I spotted the cracking now, if that's the cost of sorting it out, let's just hope they do a good job.
