Lear audio amp E85 (in boot by battery)

Hi, I have an amplifier for sale, see here

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=136065

Part numbers are superseded every once in a while so later units will still be compatible. Happy for you to come over a try before you buy if your not too far from the Midlands?

I’ve got one. Also have 2 subs, grills and part of the loom with it. Planned a retrofit but can’t see me doing it now.

Happy to try and agree a price if it’s what you’re after.

That's from an E46 2 door Chris, connectors are the same but doesn't work with the Z4 set up unfortunately.

Ahh news to me. It came out of a z4 I broke where it was working fine. I’ll do a little more research.

I can’t find any info on the difference but realoem doesn’t list it as standard on the Z4 so probs best avoid this one.
Cheers for the heads up Wasif 👍🏻

Thanks for the responses and info guys!

@Wassup , I’m based on the south coast - a bit far for a test run, but it would be good to know if compatible.

I’m not sure if I need the exact part no. or not?

I have both a Carver dsp compatible amplifier and a non Carver dsp amplifier, so as long your amplifier looks like the one I've pictured then we can figure out which one you need. You'll need to remove the grills behind the seat and check the subwoofer type as there are two different versions, a Carver dsp and non Carver dsp version. Take a picture of your subwoofer and amplifier and let me know. Hope that helps?

Thanks for the update - my amp doesn’t look like the one you posted: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=136065

It looks exactly like the picture that @Street posted, but with the 6929689 part no.

Ahh in that case it's the non dsp Carver/hi fi system...which I don't have, sorry. On the plus side, the standard amplifier is usually cheaper

I always wonder what the actual differences are between different models - the setup for different cars is usually much of a much. Do the Lear amps actually come apart nicely or are they an angle grinder job?

The larger design amplifiers come apart easily but from my own experiences they're not compatible across the different types of sound system. The Carver dsp amplifier is specifically designed for the Carver subwoofers which require a 30A line output and will not work with the other Z4 set ups. Not sure if the amplifiers for the non dsp systems are interchangeable as I've never looked into it.

Hello everyone,
Sorry to revive this kind of old post, but I saw on another post that the reference @Street was selling should actually be compatible with the z4's equiped with the 65126929689.

And since I have the same issue here, are you by any means still selling it @Street ?
Thank you in advance !

I have both types of amplifiers, don't have part numbers to hand. If you post a picture of your current amp that'll help.

I don't have a picture of mine at the moment because I put it back in the car, since it still works a little, only the left door speakers stopped working... But as a reference, this is the exact same as this one :

I believe the official compatible replacement is : 65129143127
And from my understanding (from other posts, I cannot garantee), the one for e46 cab is also compatible : 65128376305

Thanks to the wonderful people on here, I got this sorted. I bought the identical Lear amp, part no 6929689 from @bigwinn on here, it all works perfectly now   . Also worth noting, I did buy another amp as a test (at my risk), thanks to @street on here. It looked the same, but had a different part no. from an E46 Coupe (but removed from a Z4) - it actually worked perfectly, 100% plug and play, there was just one issue probably related to my ageing Parrot bluetooth, which wasn't present when the original amp was fitted. Some mild hissing/interference was heard only when the bluetooth was activated (I have the old Parrot asteroid mini installed on my car). I would expect for other cars without this bluetooth set-up, it would be OK. I still have it if anyone is interested :)

Thank you for these very useful informations !
I might be interested in this other amp if I cannot find a 6929689 soon. I do have a bluetooth device but it is not the same, the previous owner installed a Dension Gateway Lite BT, who knows, maybe it would work without issue :D
