Knocking noise from front right hand side wheel area Z4 3.0si 2007

Hi everyone.

I have a 2007 Z4 3.0si and over the past few days I have noticed a knocking noise coming from the front right hand wheel side area of my car.

I have had the car up in the air and have checked all the usual suspects (ball joints, track rod ends, drop links, anti roll bar bushes, the rear track control arm bushes ETC) and they are all in good condition and have no excessive play.

I have check the engine mounts and they are all in good order along with the gearbox mounts.

The symptoms happen when braking and just after when accelerating. It also happens when the car is put in reverse and the wheel is turned. The noise happens when the wheels have more force on them front to back that up and down, if that makes sense!

It does not happen all the time, but has slowly got more predominant over the past few days and when the car is warm.

I was just wondering if anyone has had the same symptoms and could give me any advice on what the issue may be?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

Front struts and lower metal undertray are worth checking. Both are structural, the struts seem to work loose over time and the lower is potentially due to bolt reuse if removed.

Lower plate: replace screws, 59 Nm plus 90 degrees

If it sounds like a metallic rattle that's exactly what I've just had, and it was a loose bolt on the metal undertray. Just recently replaced all the bolts as they're meant to be one time use stretch bolts.

Hi,

Thank you for the advice.

Do you by any chance know the torque settings for the bolts on the metal undertray?

Thanks

I’ve had this exact issue and have checked everything too I may now redo the bolts on the metal under tray as I had the lower control arms replaced and I suspect the bolts were reused when fitting the tray back on
Matt.

I had a knocking when reversing on full lock, turned out to be the front top mounts. Can't say I noticed a knocking on acceleration or braking but could be worth a look if you've not checked yet.

Hi,

Thank you for your help on this.

I am in the process of finding the issue at the moment

I have had the driver’s side shock off this weekend to change some components.

Do any of you know the torque settings for the top mount bolts and the bottom bolt where the shock fits into please?

Thank you for all your help.
