Key Not Opening Boot (battery disconnected)!!!!

Hi Guys I am in a severe pickle here... Been having all kinds of problems with my wifes Z (2005 3.0) so I thought it was the cars battery. Disconnected the battery terminals and stuck a charger on it to see if I could get enough charge to start it.. I came back and removed the charger and shut the boot without hooking the battery up as I have many times. Now I can't open the boot with the key, obviously the key fob won't remotely work as the battery is disconnected. I understand the nuances with the z's keys and the battery running out but manually turning the key does not work in this case which I can't imagine is by design (why have a hard key..).

Having spent hours on google trying to figure this out thought I would post here to see if someone has had this issue before and how to get into the boot. The drivers side door is unlocked / open so I have access to the interior just no access to the back to hook the battery up again. Thanks for any ideas/guidance on this!!

Not something I have done but I would try jump leads or maybe a charger connected to the charging terminals under the bonnet. Maybe the key or the interior boot release (next to the bonnet release) would work like that.

Terminals can be seen in this thread. https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=134155

The lock is connected to the key barrel with a cable. Electrical connection will make no difference at all.
You may be able to reach over between the seats to pop out the clips and remove the parcel shelf.
But even then you need a small child to climb in, remove the access panels and manually pull the cable.

Thanks for the info! I did try a charger on the terminals in front thinking maybe I could get it enough juice to unlock but no joy. Is there a way to get into the boot from the front seat? I can't seem to find a way and certainly won't be small enough to fit if so, but could bribe a relative if there is. Thanks

Thanks enuff_zed, this will be my next attempt. Of the 4 bmw's I have the Z has been the bane of my existence, so particular and problematic, just don't see it on other models. Thanks again guys!!
