key fob not locking/unlocking

Hello all, I posted over on bimmerpost but wasn't sure if this is the same crowd or not. I have run into another problem; my key fob does not unlock or lock the car anymore. I can start the car with no issues but the fob does not seem to communicate with the car... Any ideas whether it is a battery issue/fuse/antenna? I have tested fuses 72, 73, and 79, but fuse 61 is missing. I have not touched the fuse box in my ownership so I doubt that it suddenly went south because of the missing fuse? Any guidance is appreciated... Car is non-comfort access.

I take it you only have one key fob and you don’t have comfort access? If so do you have an electric toothbrush? You can try changing the fob on that or some other wireless charger and see if you can get it to do anything, from what I’ve read a flat or failing battery normally allows you to lock the car but not unlock before it finally fails completely, have you tried unlocking the car with the key that housed inside the fob?

As said above, probably the battery in the fob is knacked. It will start the car in the hole with a flat battery.

Batteries are hard wired, so not supposed to be replaceable, but it can be done by paying or DIY if you know what you are doing.

Correct, I have one working key without comfort access. I can unlock using the physical key, if that's what you mean, but all of a sudden both buttons stopped working. I have the car unlocked but will not lock. An electric toothbrush? Never heard of that before, would an older apple watch charger work as well? Is there a way to figure out if the battery is completely gone or still salvageable?

I don’t know how to Apple Watch charges but if it just sits on top then it’s definitely worth trying it overnight, it may not help but does the boot open on the fob?

The electric toothbrush thing is relevant as the fixed battery inside the car is supposed to charge via induction - when you have it in the slot in the car, it recharges the battery.

The battery could be so old it's fooked, or you could have an issue with the charging mechanism inside the key slot.

Placing the key on any other inductive charger (like a toothbrush charger) will attempt to recharge the keyfob - but if the battery itself is 'aged out' then you need a better solution.
