Key/Central locking issue

I realise there are two threads on this that are relatively new but neither seem to explain what I'm experiencing.

My key will unlock the door using the blade itself. When doing this it will sometimes also unlock the passenger door. Other times it won't. Recently the passenger door wouldn't open at all and I had to take the door panel off to access the mechanism to release it.

I've tried placing my key on a toothbrush charger which sort of worked. Before the buttons did nothing but now it locks the car but doesn't unlock it again. The boot pop works too using the key.
If I lock the car using the key fob and then unlock it with the key blade the alarm goes off. And sometimes, the passenger door will either unlock with the driver door, or stay locked. On several occasions the passenger door reverted back to not open at all (I'd try to open it from the inside but the locking pin would come up and then go back then when I let the handle go).

Has anyone go any idea if it's the GM5 (MG5?), or the key battery, or the fob or what? I've contacted my local BMW dealer but they were as useful as a chocolate tea pot. (the tech literally said to me 'you have an intermittent locking mechanism issue'... yeah I gathered that myself :x).

If I need a new key or whatever does anyone know where I can get one in the Swindon/wiltshire area as I'd rather not be left without a car should I need to post my key.

Thanks all!
