Keeping the 108's

Replace or refurbish the standard 108's.......? A common question on here :|

After a visit to The Wheel Specialist in Nottingham where we took some examples out to view next to the car, I decided to keep them and get them refurbished.
I have had the Flash Chrome finish where they use an air brush to give the wheels that smoky/chrome finish.

I am very impressed with the work and just can't stop looking at the car. It has given it a complete new look!
To finish off the job I have just given Claying a try - the results are amasing (very much needed after the track day). I also gave the hood a clean and reprotection.

look good, im going to do a diy refurb on my ellipsoids but in a darker grey, and calipers will be bronze.

out of interest why does no one go for a different coloured outer rim, seems the smoked/shadow chrome finish on the stars is popular, but as it looks good i can see why people do it. im going to have a play with a couple of rims ive bought colour wise, fancy something a bit different but may end up dark grey as originally planned

About 360 quid all in.
They are powder coated and then painted. Didn't split the rims, you wouldn't know.
 
They look good Ben. No surprise I'd say that though given my Sterling grey on 108's with smoke chrome centre.

Surprised they did not split the rims to do the job

I am surpried they did not split them as well but they look great and that's what counts!

Wheel and car colour go very well together!

For a few months until the laquer fails, no company I contacted would give a warantee on a machine polished and laquered finish which is telling :thumbsdown:

I understand the laquered finish isnt as durable as painted and can understand companies not offering a warranty on the finish, but if I do need to get mine done I will be getting them split and re laquered again as I think it looks much better. Will probably do myself or worst case get lepsoms to do them.
 
I reckon having done it once it's now a 2 hour job once every couple of years to take the 4 rims off, pull the centres out, polish, lacquer, rebuild and refit them.

Small price to pay for keeping them looking smart.

A set of 108's just went for £180 on eBay, I was thinking about sticking some track tyres on them and painting them myself

I thought about that with mine, but I was thinking darker colour than silver and I think that has the unfortunate effect of making the alloy look smaller (IMO). So I decided on a stock polished/lacquered finish, although I do need to redo the lacquer as it didn't take too well.

As CJ says, it's not a big job to split, clean up, repolish and relacquer the rim every year or so. As long as you've got a couple of spare bolts just in case :roll: :lol:
 
Agree that the laquered finish looks nice but I hope that my Powder Coating will last years now.
