Karbonius - too loud for Thruxton?

Hi all, I’ve just acquired my new z4m and itching to get out in track.

Thruxton is the closest to me and then Brands Hatch.

Thruxton has a 90db static limit which got me thinking what my car would be?

Standard exhaust and karbonius intake. Have people had any trouble with their carbon intake z4m’s ?

Brands Hatch is 102db static for reference.

They measure at the exhaust, and the intake is 5m away beneath the bonnet, so shouldn’t matter to the static sound test.

Standard exhaust will be less than 80dB.

Not a carbon intake, but I had no problems at Thruxton with an aFe intake (much louder than OEM or a GruppeM) and Remus back boxes which are moderately louder than OEM. I’ve never had a static noise test measure anything other than exhaust noise levels.
If they have sound level meters around the track then the intake noise might catch you out. They haven’t the times when I’ve been there but it was a few years ago now.
Edited to add, I see mmm-five beat me to it

Ah thanks both - appreciate the responses.

Thruxton didn’t state a drive by limit, only static but makes total sense re measuring the exhaust.

Thruxton seems cheaper as well but I’ve read is a fast circuit.

You'll be fine, if they have a drive by then find out where it is an lift a bit, 90db is about as loud as a Prius

I do open limit days now, the worlds gone mad!

I think it is one of the fastest circuits in the UK, although it wasn't that fast when I did it in a mate's MK3 Escort 1.6.

You should be absolutely fine OP, I've not heard of a Z4M having any issues with intake noise getting close to track noise limits.

FWIW per my reply on your other thread, I'd strongly consider Brands as a first trackday over Thruxton - the latter is FAST and I'd find that a much more daunting circuit to get to grips with a new car, let alone a first time on track when compared to Brands

thanks mate yes looking at the novice day at brands - next one is sept!
Thanks for the advice

If brands and thruxton are close by, then consider going a bit further and making bedford your first track. Lots of room to spread out, flat and wide, very little to hit and normally no race cars.

It's where I normally shake down new cars, or new drivers!

Sounds good will definitely take a look. Do you have any preferred track day operators or are they all much of the same?

This is the company I mentioned in your other thread. I used them for about 15 years when I lived on the UK:

I'd just suggest avoiding goldtrack as a novice - I believe Goldtrack permits racecars on their trackdays, and also overtaking into braking zones and on both sides of the car, rather than other TDOs, who only permit overtaking on the left, and on designated straights. It's just one less thing to manage when you're trying to take it all in as a novice.

I use MSV a lot, but also Javelin - both are good;

(Evening at Bedford on Tues 27th May for £159; that might be a good shout for your first outing as it's not too expensive?)

Thanks Ed, yes I've seen these restrictions with other operators...
