K & N filter swap...bit rough

Just got my K & N filter (panel) and popped it in car, i know from experience these are either a waste of money, or at best a saving on a service part, but...

its now very lumpy in low gears, and hesitates slightly, its actually very much like underfuelling ((in old skool terms) due to air, so i never expected it, looks like a rolling road re map needed, or pop old filter back in.
Its not as crisp on the throttle at all

That's a rather radical change for an air filter swap :? As you have said: pop the old one back in and see if the problem disappears.

Did it happen straight away or a gradually worsening? If it's straight away it won't be an over oiled filter, and if it's brand new it also won't be this.
Sure you installed in correctly? Sounds stupid, but if this change happened straight after doing the filter swap it stands to reason something hasn't been put back correctly rather than an issue with the filter/MAF which would worsen over time not instantly.
I don't believe there is any 'extra' airflow a panel filter would provide over OEM that would need a remap or anything of that kind, induction kit maybe but not just a straight swap in the OEM airbox.

exactly my point,

no only got it today, and fitted it today, its fitted correctly too (pain in the arse fitment i will add ) but correctly never the less.
as soon as i pulled off the drive and put my foot down it hesitated then picked up, i had a play through the gears and its doing it consistently low down in the rev range from idle to 4 thousand...not had chance for a top end run yet, as this is the showing factor for air/fuel ratio faults.

i will fathom it out one way

oh and i kerbed my bloody wheel too :headbang: :headbang:

To be honest, I'd just got back to standard, panel filter does little apart from not having to replace it at service intervals and even then your talking a couple of quid for an OEM one. Whatever it is, for the practically zero gain and potential hassle your probably getting I would say revert back. Different if it was an induction kit which add's noise etc. but for this doesn't seem worth the grief.
