Just got back :(

Just got back from Greece - 2 weeks of heaven - couldn't believe how hot it was in Gatwick yesterday - touched down at 6pm and it was 26C !! We've been going to Thassos for over 10 years - now the English are a rarity out there - it's all East Europeans - mostly Romanians - driving around in huge 4x4's , Beemers etc ( didn't see any zeds though ). how times have changed.

I've never liked flying ( 6 miles up in a cigar tube ) and we had quite severe turbulence most of the way back - was not happy

Reckon it's time for a change - perhaps give Italy a try :D

I got back last week from Kos, flight on way back was pretty bumpy too, even the alcohol didn't improve matters! Kept checking my watch and of course just about 2 minutes had passed

my last european holiday was 2 years ago when i spent a week or so in italy and its been a good few years since i had a euro beach type holiday..... i prefer the long haul destinations nowadays as europe is all old hat. probably a good thing if they are being inundated with eastern europeans so thanks for the heads up :D

Just got back tonight from a business trip to Gdansk - Now there's a great place to visit for a short break (also Sopot & Gydinia)
Had turbulence both ways - a passenger was injured when a stewardess split boiling water on her during one particularly bad period
Ambulance met her at airport, luckily she didn't seem too bad

I've just got back from Paris for a three day trip
I took my wife and Granddaughter for her 16th Birthday treat
The place is full of Eastern European scam artist
Being I was a vulnerable target with my wife and granddaughter I was approached eight times in total by scammers trying to 'give me' a solid gold ring that I appeared to have dropped and handed to me for a reward of course, funny how I could have dropped three gold rings in one day
Guys trying to tie a love bangle very tightly around my fingers and not releasing it until I paid them 50 Euros and groups of normally young Romanian girls pushing a clip board in your face and asking you to sign a petition for deaf people and once you've signed demanding a 50Euro donation
This with groups of guys trying to get you to gamble on the three eggcup trick
Fortunately I am a bit street wise and was quite firm in telling them where to go
I then looked up these scams on google and it seems the City in inundated with these people
It made us feel intimidated and I would never go back

I was in Spain for a week with a mate a couple of months ago. We got approached in a bar by a girl with a clipboard 'collecting for deaf people', the clipboard claimed that other people had allegedly donated €50 and the like.

Right scam. I told her to f@ck off, she understood that alright.

There didn't appear to be any scams going on - it was just so noticeable how many romanians , serbs and bulgaraians were there this time - they had driven down in their own cars and come across on the car ferries. Going by the expensive cars and wads of cash on display they were wealthy which is contrary to what you would think of modern East European states that the media portrays nowadays - just an observation .

There were also noticeably more peddlers trying to sell all manners of things on the beach ranging from watches , sunglasses , clothes and even an electric shaver - the best one of all was when a character came up to me and produced a huge kitchen knife from a scabbard and began slicing up some paper to show me how razor sharp it was - I could just imagine trying to bring it back on the plane

We're going to Malaysia a week on Monday for two and a half weeks - can't wait. Lazy days, great food, a trip to Borneo and haggling by giant calculator. Going to Europe always feels like it's harder work, strangely.

Take the Zed up to South France, then the Garda lake in Italy, go on to Croatia and drive back over Germany for the no limit highways
I did it twice and can't wait to do it again!

Off to Javea for the second time this year. Went in May for 10 days and loved it.

The other halds aunt and uncle have an apartment there so it's just the flight with sleazyjet to swallow and some money for ice creams...

Fly out 25th of August for 10 days. Literally cannot wait.

I know it's warm here at the moment but 'it's a different kind of heat' lol

Although I travel all over Europe and sometimes to California on business, we haven't been on holiday outside of the UK for 11 years. This is due to the hound who cannot be left in kennels (over-developed guarding instinct).

However, in that time we have covered pretty much all of the UK and it has made me realise that we do live in the best country in the world.

And the weather is not as bad as people make out - have never had more than a couple of rainy days in any one week.

In case you wondered, the other car is a Discovery. I reckon I have the best two car combination there is.
