Hi all,

just had a great weekend after getting my Z4 on sat morning en route to the lakes (its a 3.0L SE sport spec, whatever that is, on an 04 plate).

so a few miles and a sunburnt head later all is well, just a few questions. where is best to post?

briefly i would like to ask about, and im happy to post in the right place

1, is it possible to confuse something and for the DSC/handbrake light to come on? i restarted the car and it went away and i had just driven it over the hardKnott pass (accidentally but seing as i was there why not)

2, can i upgrade the satNag dvd.... been reading about and i dont know what i have to start with

3, does the phone thingy allow me to do music from my iphone (didnt really know it had a phone till i started poking at stuff and then it when i did pair it called my ex!)

4, how do you get out a jamed cd changer and is it goosed or does it just need a clean. read somewhere about doing it with a strip of plastic underneath the cartrigde.

5 (last one) it seems to have a rattly transmission is this normal? there is alot of talk about the net saying it is. should say here its silky smooth on gear changes just seems to rattle at low revs when driving slowly. (i.e on that pass)

sorry for the questions, cant wait to drive to work in it with the top down

Can't help with your questions as I have an E89 Z4 (newer model) but welcome to the forum. There'll be someone along who can help you soon!
Pics of your new car please!

Welcome! Just post general questions/comments in the E85/E86 discussion area here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

and problems in the E85/E86 Problems area here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

PS (and a lot of people are going to say this...) :worthless:

To answer some of the above
Q1 - See here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36590&p=504775
Q2 - you have a MkIV navigation computer and it takes BMW "High" DVDs and they are readily available from dealers (and other sources)
Q3 - No, only bluetooth calls. You can buy an iPod kid from BMW, or add aftermarket solutions, or simply use the aux port if you have one (often under the dash, above the centre console/ashtray area) If you scroll through the "mode" settings using the button you'll get radio, aux (if fitted), CD, CD Changer
Q4 - Does it make a noise? If not it might be disconnected as someone fitted an iPod kit. If it does, gently does it then use a little WD40 on the base of the cassette. Plenty of posts on here about this.
Q5 - That doesn't sound right but will let more knowledgable folks than me comment.

Hi thanks for the replies and warm welcome, no pics yet as its pretty dirty after the weekends cruising,

that post is quite informative, sounds a bit like if the pressure sensors get erronious readings the system will shut down. I suspected something like that as I was half way over the HardKnott pass in cumbria and it came on over a particulaly humpy bridge. A restart removed it and then i did a very steep section. i guess soemthing to watch out for. it hasnt missed a beat for 200 miles since.

so with the DVD will i need to change the firmware, i have version 4-30 9after reading the link, thanks again.

not too bothered about the ipod kit ive got a blue tooth ciggy lighter transmitter thingy and it sits nice in this car just infront of the gear stick. is it difficult to fit?

the cd is conected as it makes noise and you can see the mechanism moving. Some prying is in order i think or ill just remove the unit.

th transmission thing is nothing megga loud, sounds very much like the worn rattly release bearing in my westfield.

One thing that appears to be a common theme, if your battery is on the way out, expect many and varied weird lights and errors. Might be worth checking it before delving into expensive diagnostics.
