Just got a 35i - FM reception, speakers & idle jerk?

Hello,

Got a 2009 35i e89 yesterday. Been enjoying it so far.. except for...

1) the Radio gets next to no reception... it's got bluetooth and that all seemed to work fine but you have to use manual tune on the iDrive and even Beeb stations are inaudible.....
Tried the iDrive reboot, no difference.
Tried disconnecting the aerial and the reception got even worse (so it is connected)
Tried turning on the heated screen in case its the Earthing problem but made no difference, e.g. didn't notice any interference.

2) On idle every 5 seconds or the revs will jerk slightly...... maybe a sensor etc

Need to locate my BMTechnic cable to check for codes on the issue(s).

3) Its got the business HIFI, so 11 speakers, sounds loud but a bit.... boxy, is this normal? Any quick win speaker replacement options?

Other than that going well, I mean who would want a problem free car, that would just be dull.......

FM Reception... no issues ever. The antennae for this is both in the external aerial and in a multi antennae in the rear bumper, perhaps this has become disconnected?

As for idle, when cold there's a tiny 'not quite super smooth' miss once in a while, its very minor and miss is a wrong word, but you can feel a slight something in what is otherwise silky smooth. When warmed up, nada, super smooth. This could be nothing at all, but if revs are changing, try with air con off and on to see if this eliminates anything. After that you're looking at a diagnostic probably.

HiFi work, lots of options, costly, if you're going to keep the car then do a search on here as a few have upgraded their systems to help ruin their hearing in later life

Now that's a nice looking car you've got there in the signature ;-) although it would look better I think with the 19" V-Spoke wheels ;-) lol.

You not tempted to retrofit the M sport bumper? been looking at that, seems like a good shout........ I'm not in love with the paddle shifters either, I think they're nice to use but very tempted to either do the re-wire to left/right or buy the LCI shifters.......

Is it possible the FM aerial has just broken? someone bent it and its snapped inside etc? its def connected to something as it crackles and gets even worse when you unscrew it...

The idle happens even when warm and I did try turning off the aircon, it still did it just at a slightly lower RPM.

You're right in that its not a jerk... or a judd, but you can feel it through the brake pedal, I would say it feels like the exhaust but the fact the rev counter moves slightly makes me think some kind of MAF / oxygen sensor perhaps...........

I might try a mates aerial / have a sniff around behind the carpet in the boot - I presume that leads the to the antenna mount.

Looking at realoem are you sure the aerials in the bumpers are for FM? I'd say they're for the Bluetooth phone and the TV kits?

I mean FM radio antennas haven't changed in all these years, I'm sure it would just be the one?

Swapped the aerial, no difference, will try removing head unit at weekend and see what's what, if I find anything I'll post some pics for future ref.

Quite a few codes on the car but nothing serious so cleared and taken for drive, nothing reported. Suppose its a 30,000 mile car thats not had an oil change in 20 months and prob on original plugs so changing those might resolve the idle malarky eh...
