The Bay Area ZSCCA has planed a drive to the Yosemite National Park for June 6th: I've been told this is the perfect time to go there since the snow is melting and it makes beautiful waterfalls.

The plan is to leave Oceanside around 3AM to meet with the rest of the BAZ group at 9:30AM in Atwater, CA. I'm planing on spending Saturday night at a hotel (we're gonna have dinner after the drive) and head south Sunday morning after brunch.

Here's a copy and paste from the BAZ website:

"Our start point for the drive is the New Starbucks in Atwater. Applegate & Hwy 99. The actual address is 1640 Bell Lane Atwater, Ca. 95301. There is also a gas station and a Carl's Jr. and a CHP Station. Will try for a no later than 9:30 start. Head out the back way to Hwy 59 to Snelling, Merced Falls, take the Hornitos road into Catheys Valley, Hwy 140 into Mariposa, Hwy 49 to Oakhurst. Then Hwy 41 into the South entrance of Yosemite. We will see if anyone would like to stop at the Wawona Hotel. Then continue on to Glacier Point for Lunch. You can bring your own or buy at the snack shack. Ohh and Ahh at some of the most picturesque views. Then head into the valley. Try to make a stop at the tunnel view and play the water fall stops by the crowds. Drive on out hwy 120 and then over to Hetch Hetchy then back to 120. Stopping at the Hotel Charlotte in Groveland for Dinner. They are hold half a room for me. If needed we can have the whole room which seats around 20. So about a week before the drive I will need a head count. For a view of their menu http://www.hotelcharlotte.com On the left click on (new site map) then menu. Everyone can head home the way they need to from there."

I called the Best Western in Modesto and got a group discount for June 6th. The cost will be $69.99 if you tell them you're the with the "Southrn California ZSCCA group".

Once I get an idea of who's coming I can set up different meet point to pick everyone up; however, we're gonna take the I-5 to the CA-99 so I think we're just gonna set a meeting point at a gas station off the freeway.

If you're interested please let me know where is more convenient for you to join the caravan and whether you're staying at the Best Western or not (go ahead and call to make your own reservation, I just need to keep track of how many people are staying there).

Got my hotel reservation as well. I got a better discount using AAA by about a buck.
Let me know you route and maybe we can meet up somewhere like Gorman??

Gorman sounds good. I just checked on Google Maps and it looks liek it's 2.5 hrs from O'side so I'll see you there between 5AM and 5:30AM: there should be a 76 gas station so
we'll see you there... I'll give you a call once I'm around there...

I forgot to mention we're gonna be on 12-0 if you bring your radio...

We'll shoot for 5am ourselves. So, are we going to be the only 2 cars or are there going to be more for this caravan?

I will be on auto pilot at 2:45 am when I get to Luca and Mary's! Luca can you provide a phone number, the link had an error and did not load properly, so searched for Modesto hotel and it came back with a bunch in and around there, hence my confusion as to which one to book a room with for that night!

Sorry for the link; here's the correct one.
Just in case, the hotel is:

Best Western Town House Lodge
909 16th Street
Modesto, CA, 95354-1117
Phone: 209/524-7261

I plan on leaving from the shell gas station at Herndon and hwy 99 in Fresno around 8:15 am that will put me in Atwater around 9am if you want to meet up with me let me know so I will wait if your not there.

Rich

Rich, is that the same gas station we met at last time? Could you give me the address there again so I can put it in the GPS? Thanks!!!

This is a different one. This is in the North part of Fresno The address is 6725 N Golden State Bl 93722 If your coming north on 99 you would take the Herndon exit which should be the last Fresno exit. Make a right at the end of the ramp and the shell station is on your right side. There is a shell gas station a couple fast food places and a truck stop. It will take around 45 min to get to the meeting place in Atwater from here.

If any of you are priceline savvy you can get id and get Marriott in Modesto for 37.00 that evening! That is what I did.

If the So Cal group wants to go back into Yosemite Sunday and hike into some of the falls or drive to Tioga Pass which is a fantastic drive and take 395 back south. I could stay in Modesto and lead you thru

Rich

Hope all want well? Wish we were able to go, just was not in the cards. :(

So who has the pics? :poke:

Oh man what a trip!!!! Yosemite is probably up there on the most beautiful places on earth... All and all I think we drove some 2K miles and took about 100 pics. Left Sat morning at 3AM got back Sun at Midnight... I'll try to have the pix up tonight.

PS: guess what Bob??!!! Another Z4 had tires problems... And a Z3 tried to go to the rescue; this time, however it was both rear tires so it was gonna be too complex se we end up calling the toe...

What a great drive. In my numerous visits to the park last week was the first time I saw a bear, today while going up to Glacier Point we were rewarded with the rare bear sighting a golden brown bear off the road in a meadow. Later in the day after the crowds had left we went into Yosemite falls and admired the scenic beauty of the falls, on the walk back we were separated into two groups when we had our second bear sighting of the day a black bear coming out of a ravine to the trail. The bear was standing there trying to figure out how to cross the trail with us walking along the trail, Thats when Luca amazed us not only does he have a vast knowledge of our great cars had how to keep them running that way, but with a simple yell he had the bear jog across the path within yards of us and start heading up into the woods. When the bear had gotten a little ways up into the woods it stopped and looked down at Luca as to ask if that was ok ? It was a great finish to a wonderful day.
Thanks to Rich (Kingrichi) for a great trip and Luca, Mary and JoAnna for coming from San Diego to enjoy the day with us.

The run was beyond anything I was expecting! Wow! Thanks to all of you for making me feel so welcome. The weather was great, a little something for everyone! The wildlife was abundant and we saw a couple of bears too! :P The waterfalls were magnificent, and the scenic tour we took running north to south Sunday in the sun was perfect top down driving weather! The smells and views of the park will linger a long time, even after the stop at the bakery smell fades from my car! Great people, driving great cars having the best of times! Just my kind of fun! When is the next run?
