Jump starting

Does anyone know if the zed is ok to be used to jump start another car as I know some cars electrics don't take too well to being used as a jump start car.

Someone left the rear interior light on for days in my Freelander and drained the battery. If I can't jump from the zed I need to go get a charger.

I don't think you can,

You would probably have to go really fast for it to work, and that's not advisable as the towing an auto with the drive wheels on the floor will wreck the gear box

So In short get a jump pack

I have no idea...just an image of your trying to push the Freelander!!!! I know I couldn't!!!

I'm going to go get a battery charger. The Freelander is blocking the zed in so I need to use my lads C1. Woo hoooo! :lol:
 
A jump pack is not going to work unless the engine is tiny.

My jump pack can start anything up to 2.0, but anything more than that or a diesel - forget it.

It will tell in your manual whether you can use the points under the bonnet for starting points.
 
Just use a charger to charge the Freelander and start it on its own accord.
 
The only thing in the manual about jump starting is about jumping the car itself, not about using it to jump another car.
 
Does it mention to do it from the bonnet connections? If so, it would mean it can handle the current in any case.

I would still prefer to use the charger as if the Freelander is a diesel (which I assume), the current requirements is almost twice as much as what the Z would need.
 
No, it's petrol. :cry:

It says the 'start assistance connection in the engine bay' so it should be ok.

Can't believe we don't have jump leads or a battery charger. Think I'll get both, charge the Freelander and jump leads as back up.
 
You obviously never had a classic car or lawnmowers with batteries then :D

Currently on 5 chargers here, including a "quick charge" unit to get over a situation like you have - i.e. leave it to charge for an hour and it will be enough to get going on its own accord.
 
We've got a ride on Honda mower but its always been fine!

Anyway, what's with you being nice to me. You not took your tablets today? :lol:
 
it won't be a problem. just remember to connect the jumper cables in order.

1. red connection on to the +ve of the Z4
2 red on to the +ve of the car to be started.
3 black on the car to be started -ve connection
4. black on to the Z4 -ve connection.

When doing this make sure the car to be started is in neutral, handbrake on and ignition OFF

Start the Z4 and run at about 2,500RPM for about 1 minute to give some charge to the discharged vehicle.

then with the Z4 running start the discharged car.

Wear safety glasses and be aware of any rotation belts / pulleys
