Google Angry Jester, I have used one of these to start my work van after sitting too long with the ign on :? VW T5 with no problem at all.
Some of the guys in my team have got them on long term test and they stand up very well, starting 5 to 10 vehicles between charges.
As with anything like this you get what you pay for so go for the highest amp output and you won't go far wrong.

It's more powerful than others suggested. I use it for tractors and transit vans. Amazing output but only for a matter of seconds, I once used it to start a 24v Iveco by connecting it to one battery, I was surprised when it started. It does a lot of other things.

Unless you have removed the surround already, then it's much easier to use the terminals under the bonnet. First time I jumped mine I did it from the boot. Since then always form the bonnet. :wink:
Having said that not had to jump it since my daughter bought me a trickle charger, two years ago. Don't use it much, but if the car's been in the garrage more than a week then I pop it on until the next run out.
The reason why I don't usually connect directly to batteries is because of risk of explosion (with jump leads). If a battery is flat and you don't know why, it could have failed (releasing gas). However lithium jump packs don't spark. You usually have to activate the boost function which only lasts for seconds by pressing a "activate/jump" button. They usually reset or restore for a 100/200 second countdown. Go for a quality pack and you'll be fine.
