Jake Humphrey leaving the BBC

Just reading at lunch time Jake has been announced as the new anchor for the BT premier league channel when it goes live. That's got to be a big loss to the BBC, and I'll be really disappointed to see the F1 presenting team broken up now. I wonder if selling the F1 rights had anything to do with JH leaving eventually, at the time it sounded like they were all pretty pissed off with the beeb. I don't even know who has the coverage now going forward, if the BBC are continuing this half and half thing for next year? If so then they're going to need a new lead presenter - I'm afraid I didn't really enjoy the shows Lee McKenzie did during the Olympics, but then they were also missing EJ who is surprisingly quite a miss when he's not there. Her & DC together and the show was a bit dry, it needed something/someone else.

And if there's a big pay cheque coming from BT, I wonder if Jake Humphrey will be upgrading from a Z4 in the near future!

I think its because he knows the BBC sports days are numbered

I hope Sky snap him up for next years GP

The BBC Sport used to lead the way, it's sad that it's now being pushed aside in favour of unjustifiable high-salaried (and in some cases) crap entertainment shows. I guess these days though no-one can compete with Sky. Fingers crossed BT won't do a Setanta or ITV digital with their new channel.

The existing team on the BBC is one of the big reasons for watching it, can't see it being the same now. I wonder when the contracts are up for DC, EJ etc? Next time the F1 rights are up for grabs it'll be Sky all the way, and if we're lucky some of us paupers will be able to get a highlights package Sky sell onto someone else.

Not good news. I've got Sky, although I increasingly resent having to pay through the nose for TV that I rarely watch... but this season has brought into sharp focus just how good the BBC is at sports TV. Their F1 coverage is far superior to Sky's on pretty much all levels. And Jake Humphrey is an excellent anchor too... he showed his class with the Olympics. I'll be interested to see how this will all pan out... :(

not too fussed, he was a good anchor for BBC

but i only watched the bbc f1 coverage once this year as i was away from home and i am so glad Sky got the rights. What i used to find funny about DC and EJ now makes my blood boil..

would rather pay for Sky HD pack then silly TV License

hope Sky snap up leigh mckenzie

it will be a big miss but i've gone with sky anyway as they have hours and hours of f1 coverage now and the presenting aint too bad. havent watched the bbc all year as i was pretty peeved with them not buying full coverage.... given that the only things i watch on there are f1 and football

Not that fussed on Mr Humphrey, though he is without doubt a very good anchor man. Not surprised he's taken the money and run. Hope it works out for him.

The BBC's half and half coverage of F1 is hopeless, compared to what they used to do. It's all silly online gismos and often pointless graphics overlays. I think they really are trying too hard to impress us with the they can stick the corner of the screen. It's occasionally nice to know that Vettle is pulling 5g through a corner, but I for one don't really care, as long as someone over takes him into the last corner. Oh no I'm thinking of British Superbikes now. The last bastion of real action and hilariously funny commentators. :D

I have fond memories of BBC presenting F1 for many years. Would be sad if they lost coverage like in the ITV days.

Shame JH is leaving

It's a shame, I switch the race on 5 mins before the start and turn it off not long after its finished. The BBC coverage last year was the best it had ever been. Sky this year has some good parts, like Anthony Davidson and Damon Hill, but the anchor is rubbish and I was hoping Jake would go to sky so a little disappointed that he has gone to BT.
