Hi Guys

What engine is the best on Jaguar? I am trying to buy one for my wife but what would you recommend? Only petrol engines. I dont want to deal with diesel ones.

3.0 V6 or 2.5 V6 or 2.1 V6?

Anyone has experience with Jaguar?

Hi,

I drove a 2.5 before buying a 2.2D, very smooth free reving engine - But compared to the pull of the 2.2 it felt a bit underpowered, If it has to be a petrol then 3 litre.

Stu.

My mum and dad have both had 2.5 s types and ive had a 4.2 supercharged s type r.
my engine was good but both the 2.5s had headgasket failure. Although they were both on lpg and the fitters said the s type had a different engine code to the mondeo so don't know if that's relevant. They're all crap on fuel anyway

The x-type shares a chassis, engine and various other bits with the Mondeo of the same generation IIRC - so basically it's a tarted up Ford :D

However, Mrs B had one as a hire car once whilst her car was being repaired, and she loved it. Spookily I have just been looking at them on AT as she needs a new car... But fcuk me, the original owners have sh1t taste in interior choices. What happened to good honest black leather and black / dark fake wood veneer ???

I have a 2.5 as my DD. I've had it about 6 years and she now has 140 k on the clock. The car has been faultless. And the 4 wheel drive system has been great in the bad weather here in Seattle. The only thing to look for is rust under the sills by the doors. Better cars than most people think.

I know thats why I called it a mondeo
Yeah I mentioned it just in case as there was some doubt regarding the engines being the same so I thought I'd mention the problems. My dads radiator went causing his hg failure but it was stopped almost immediately and didn't overheat! That engine just seems prone to hg failure from our experience. My mums went without any apparent reason.

3.0 V6

My vote would go for the 3.0 v6, if it's petrol.

Beware all of them drink like a center half on a stag night. :o
