Jacking up an E85

Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on best places to jack up and support the Z4 on axel stands. I tried last night, but gave up as its so low and I'm on a gravel drive. Its too low to get on my pair of ramps - I need to make a pre-ramp. Really need to get it up high, so I can change the engine oil, gearbox oil and diff oil.

Go to your local independent timber supplier or similar and get a couple of 2ft lengths of 9" X 2" , put them a third to half way up the ramps and drive up them to take the entry angle off the ramp , I've done it all my life and never had a problem .

Get a decent sports jack, use the central rear jacking point first and the individual front jacking points might work?

Gave away my stands to a neighbour, as a couldn't get the Zed, or my old Mazda 323F Sport, on to them. Front splutters are clearly getting lower with the years.

A low jack is the one as DLH says, but I did use an old concrete edge piece from the garden which also came in handy as a chock.

Ah, that's what I'm after - I didn't know there was a central rear jacking point. Is it obvious?

I do have a low trolley jack. I've just brought this jack.

Is there a place at the front of the car where I can jack it up centrally?
If I can do this, I can get the axel stands in easier.

Unfortunately there is no central point at the front unless you have an M. Apparently non-M cars could have had the facility but it's covered by an under-tray or guard for some reason :|

Correct. Only M's have a front jacking point.

My front jack shaped indent is a little bent where someone has tried before. However TIS clearly shows it as a jacking point which I find odd.

Hi all,

Sorry for resurrecting this thread. You read such conflicting things regarding a non-M car front jacking point.

Can you see proposed front jacking point with a piece of wood or something to spread the load or is there a tried and tested front jacking position that Z4 owners have found?

My plan was to raise the rear side enough to place a axle stand. Then repeat for the other side. If I need it to be higher repeat the process as the car is semi raised for the front then do the rear. Seems logical to me.

I drive up my ramps with a timber to reduce the approach angle then use a trolley jack to lift rear using the central Diff as jacking hard point until I can get axle stands under the rear cill jacking points and level the car,
Thats on concrete though If you are on gravel - you should probably put your axle stands on a bit of 20mm ply as a load spreader if your stands are 3 legged otherwise thay might topple.- Ditto a trolley jack - needs support on gravel.
Changing an auto gbox oil is the worst with restricted height especially as you have to top it up running and cycling the gears! Need someone to put it in and out of gear - a garden pump is very handy for gbox and diff refills.
