Jacking car up...

I'm having my 108s re-furbished by a local company, I will remove the wheel's myself as I would rather the car stopped in my garage.

What make/type of jack do I need to buy, it has to be cheap as I will only use it once!

Looked on tinternet and could not find anything low enough to go under the front rubber jacking point

You got axle stands?

Otherwise you're going to need 4 jacks lol.

Best investing in either a decent trolley jack (worth the investment) or a jack with a shaped black that fits into the rubber guide. I've got both and always use the trolley jack if I can, much easier.
 
I normally just drive onto a brick then use my trolley jack, iv also got a bit of wood to fit nicely in the jacking point so i dont damage it. works a treat :thumbsup:
 
I was looking for a jack just the other day and I was told (at the Autoparts store) that I'd need to order a low profile specialty trolley jack as most floor jacks are made for "normal height " cars not low slung sports models. One could be ordered for about $200 :thumbsdown: Then I remembered that our other BMW has a jack and the same jacking points so a scissor is available to me at no cost :thumbsup:. That damned Alzheimers rearing up again.. :D Try borrowing or stealing a jack from an E46 series then use a stand or blocks to stabilize the car.

I'm going to do this tomorrow and install the soon to be famous "Mudflaps". Pics to follow.

look forward to the pics, a blow by blow instruction would be helpfull :thumbsup: looks like there will only be you and I with mudflaps on here, my excuse is I'm 65 now so sod it :fuelfire: it will keep the lower body cleaner.

Makes 3 of us with mudflaps.......... and no nasty stone chips on the rear wheel arches. Must be an age thing where sense and sensibility outweighs vanity and aesthetic pride! :thumbsup: :poke:
 
Mudflaps, you mean when I reach 60 in a couple of years I'll want to fit them to my car? Probably be a Honda Jazz by then :)
 
Sorry Kryton, this thread seems to have been Hi-Jacked. :rofl: OK, bad pun.
As for blow x blow instructions, I have to figure them out because the flaps came with little bags of screws etc but no instructions. I'll be 55 this month so Ive got couple of years to go before I really need them and by then I won't remember what they were for anyway. :D

If, I get them on OK I'll post a poll with pics to see what everyone thinks. I know there will be at least 3 votes "For".
 
Kryton - where abouts are you based. I have loads of trolley jacks and you could borrow one/two and I'm sure there's others around who'd do the same if you don't really want to go buying for a 1 off job.
 
Going to a car dismantlers tomorrow, they have loads of different types and a Jack is something that does not get much use.
 
Ha ha it would be cheaper to buy you a jack and courier it to the Humber Bridge than drive up there....

See if anyone is around there and can help.

Failing that any old 2 tonne jack from Halfords and a piece of timber to raise the height will do.
 
I just finished installing my mudflaps and I used the little jack out of our E46 325Ci.
It worked great, for one wheel at a time and I only had to do the rears with a jack.

Did you have to take the rear wheel off as in the instructions or can it be done with the wheel in place (with a struggle)
