All right, I've never liked the stubby idea - a bit like the ambient temperature sensor in the wrong place.

On the other hand, the RC car look of the somewhat longish whip has begun to insult my sense of harmony and aesthetics. Before I got recurrent nightmares and developed a split personality syndrome, I decided to take matters in my own hands.

After a pint or two, I attacked the aerial with pincers - just at the height I deemed reasonable. Then, for the lack of pliers, I used my -- aaargghhh! -- teeth to remove cup at the end.

I reapplied it to the shortened aerial with the use of some glue.

It looks a bit like a bee sting aerial, far from puffect, but fair enough to me.

Anyway, I hope I haven't just started a whip-biting subculture on this forum. :whip:

In my understanding, it is darker than silver grey and sterling grey. Something closer to space grey, but not as dark. While silver grey shines, stratus grey has a graphite tinge to it in the sun, and hence probably the name.

It was artificial light from above, and almost a horizontal blast of extreme sunlight from behind. It brings out the ashen-blue tinge in the stratus grey.

Here's the car on a dark day. I have a black-tinted roof, but it somehow blends with the dark grey.

I like that graphite greyness. Perhaps that's the only colour that looks fine with the stock graphite grills:

If I remember my Physics 101, there should be. Although not in my urban area, close to the transmitters, so I haven't had the chance to test it. The current length of my aerial matches that of some smaller cars, i.e. those with a roof-mounted aerial.

In my last car I went further and removed the aerial completely - welded the hole and resprayed the metal.

It resulted in a lamentable loss of reception, so I stretched an amplified aerial across the rear window. The Zed reportedly has such an aerial under the bumper, but its true function remains enigmatic.

I actually prefer the look of stratus grey in dull light to bright sunlight, it takes on an unusual "flatness". And I like the aerial, especially as I'm part of the anti-stubby-pro-whip movement.

Nah, they look very much the same. It depends on the light.

I've washed mine today.

I've also ordered new aftermarket 18" wheels, straight from the factory, a new 2013 model dedicated for BMWs. No replicas, as I've had bad experience with them on other cars. We'll see how they will fit.
