I love my Zed, its beautiful and I have always wanted one! But it has to be said I have had some problems which i thought were all resolved after chucking a scary amount of money at the car and then more recently the prospect of sticky steering or knackered EPS :headbang: The car is booked in again at Darren Woods (BMW Specialist) to get to the bottom of the steering issue and possible EPS system issue.

Sad to say that pending the outcome, I may well just say goodbye. Working out that since April to present I have spent £3500 not including MM bits and bobs and the I-pad mini install, so almost £10500-£11000 paying just under £6000 for the car and just cant do another possible £2400 bill :cry: Its not that the car is a shed and far from it, but I just get the feeling it may never stop unless I do something different.

I have always purchased cars of this age and it goes with common sense that 10 year old cars are going to need work, but after so much money and not much time to drive it as a second car, maybe its time to cut my losses.

I have my fingers crossed and toes and I will kindly ask all of you to wish the best to my little baby as she goes in for what could be her death sentence :tumbleweed:

To say that I am concerned that I may only get £3500-£4000 (possibly less) if it does turn out to be the sticky steering or EPS is a masssssssivvvvvvvvve understatement!
 
Mr Monkey, dont worry I will sort you out for the order I made irespective of the outcome on Monday :thumbsup: I consider Mokey Products a good investment a bit like apple. It will always sell if required for almost the same as purchase price :rofl:
 
It does sound like a rough ride & not really the norm compared with number of early Zs hitting 10+ yrs & 100k + miles
Equally i feel the strain & would be tempted to cut & run myself , in fact probably would already done it
There is a difference between a fault arising that needs fixing to a faulty car that never seems right :?

Glad I've got an MC then, as I won't have the roof or electric steering issues :poke:

Mind you, at almost 130k miles, I've got to worry about almost everything else :headbang:
 
Hope you get it sorted fella. Like you I have no problem buying higher mileage cars. Last bmw I bought had 130k on the clock already but she was a dream to drive. My coupe is the lowest mileage car I have ever bought at 65k. It sounds like your motor may have been made on a Friday at about 4pm. On the other side of your argument for throwing in the towel, you've spent so much on it, won't get a great return so why not just plough through? What about finding a breaker zed and strip all you need? Buy the whole car, take what you need and then sell the rest as parts? Just an idea.
 
Don't go after spending all that cash on it :(

Maybe try and find a second hand column off of a facelift car that is being broken there should be a fair few about. Or try and tap into existing one and grease it maybe

You can't sell up! Especially not after going through with the iPad install (which I've never been man enough to do on mine!)

I have had more than my fair share of problems with the my car. I full 100% get what your saying. I have sorted most of mine mechanically its ok now and running better than ever. But i have had to spend a few ££ getting it their. Sure some the cash has been on mods. But i doubt i would have spent as much or made as much if i hadn't had the problems.

Now my car is running right i do enjoy it but i still dont or doubt i will ever fully trust it. Wait and see what the outcome is. As the steering went completely dead i have my fingers crossed for you. That its just a simple problem fuse power supply dodgy terminal?? Mine went dead when a mouse was making a nest behind my dash and used my can bus network as lunch ingredients!! It cost me £250 to get fixed!

As for sticky steering its a pain but can be made better if not fully fixed for next to nothing.

Well Monday gets closer and I went for a spin today and gave it some wellies! no lights and no issues :o . Maybe I do have sticky steering and maybe its an electrical short which caused the EMS light to come on :evil: Who knows! I just hate it when something is about to go wrong and you cant fix it .........

Its a bit like being caught by the Mrs! you know you have to go home, but your not sure whats waiting for you :rofl:
 
Man that is one sad story, you've had more than your share of bad luck and its enough to kill anyones pig, its said there is always a jinx in a batch and it sounds like you've inherited it. I do hope you get good news from garage and cost is minimal. all the best Baz :(

Is there any particular ones to go for or some place to buy as I cant find any! :headbang:
 
Also just a little discovery today. Whilst changing the front rear wishbone bushes (never again!!!!) I noticed the steering linkages have heat shields protecting them from the exhaust on the coupe. Do they all have this or is this an addition to the coupe to prevent sticky steering?

Back to OP, hope you can find some parts. You've gotta keep going now.

Some good and bad news! The good news is that there are no faults RE EPS system. All is working as it should be. The issue appears to be the cold weather caused some sensor blip. Darren Wood advised that several customers had reported warning lights during the Northern Cold weather!

MOT undertaken and all went with just the normal break-line corrosion!

Sticky Steering has not come back again either which is a nice result :thumbsup:

But the bad news is that I still going to say goodbye :cry: I have had lots of fun with this car but when I think of the money I have spent I should have just purchased an M!

So it is with regret that as all now appears fixed on the car, its time to move on. I also use a work space to store my cars! Its great, under cover and allows me access to them whenever I need them :thumbsup: Council have now decided to claim tax on our paid spaces x 8, back dated to December 2012, which means that I will be liable for two spaces at just under £480 each and for a car that I have driven for just over 2K this year :thumbsdown:
