Issue with my Z4's navigation

Hey guys, I've got a strange issue with my GPS. It isn't finding any satellites its always searching. Is there a way to reset the GPS or something? Could it be there is a cable loose or something?

When I go into the hidden settings menu this is what I get for the GPS

Someone in another forum suggested it could be the gps antenna. I found one for like 19 euros on ebay and was wondering if it would be easy to replace myself.

The GPS areal is at the front, the computer at the back - a lot of dismantling ... (I have done it during the retrofit).

First thing i'd try, is to disconnect the battery for a minute or two. Then reconnect and let the whole thing re-boot. Usually solves alot of the 'ills'.

If still no joy. By a a new GPS receiver (£15 new on ebay), unplug the old one from the back of the nav computer (the DVD module) and try the new one. (it will work just as well in the boot, no need to go upto the dash).

Hope this helps!

It the GPS reciever this part? (65908374297 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT53&mospid=47799&btnr=65_1268&hg=65&fg=50 #5)

Tischer BMW sells it for like $150!

Mine is only getting a signal every once in a while. But we have had heavy clouds for a couple of days so I hoping thats the problem!

Part number abovve retails for $147.44.
BMW in North Haven, CT sells it minus 25% via internet.
$110.58 plus shipping.

No point buying GPS antenna from dealer when you can get them on ebay for £15, it's where I got mine and I havent had any problems.

Where does it connect to?

Remove the carpet against the back of the boot (bulkhead) and you can get access through there. Two plastic screw type clips either side IIRC just unscrew and you can lifgt the carpet out of the way.

peddy: did it fix your problem?

I may have to go ahead and replace mine. I thought it was the heavy clouds we had...but its clear today and the signal still cuts in and out. :headbang:

Is this the right antenna? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SMB-Female-GPS-Antenna-Blaupunkt-VW-MFD-VDO-Seat-Ford_W0QQitemZ370256192624QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Audio_Video?hash=item5634fd2470&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

Thanks!

Does it plug in at the back or behind the gauges? I pulled the carpet just a minute ago and can't get to the antenna. Is removing the interior the only way?

However, on BimmerFest ( http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=398459 ) it shows the antenna as being mounted by the rear view mirror.

Which is correct?

the GPS unit is located behind the gauges as you say , but plugs into the DVD drive. I can remember how much room there is to remove the plug as I retrofitted mine so it all went in at the same time. But if you cant get to the plus then you will have to remove the central rear panel in the cabin so you can extract the drive. :(

Are the gauges easy to remove?

It came on for a while while I was driving home from school, but then lost signal again.

no need to remove gauges, just the centre vent and headunit, the GPS is held by a magnetic on a cross beam, just trace the wire
