Is v power dying out

Has anyone noticed shell v power not as available as it once was. Stopped at a station for petrol yesterday only 1 v power pump in the station,I pulled up alongside it then realised why-18p per litre more than standard petrol, went straight to tesco for their 98/99 stuff, outrageous difference has anyone seen a bigger gap than this.

My local Shell has it at every pump, but it's still 8-10p a litre more than 95. Although it doesn't make a lot of different to my twice weekly 40 litre fill-ups (£3-£4 over 95, or £1-£2 over Tesco 99).

What I do hate is having to stop at a motorway service station and paying another 10p/litre on top of the already high prices. My normal plan B of going just off the motorway to find cheaper fuel is also stalling as they're getting wise and putting their prices up too.

Watched a fifth gear last night where they did some testing on all these fuels, they got 5bhp more on a 250bhp golf. 5bhp? for 18p per litre more?

I found that while my ///M returned better fuel economy and had better throttle response when using v-power, it was also more twitchy and temperamental. I switched to 95 for a few tanks and the car ran smoother. It was designed to run on 95 afterall.

15p a litre more here, very strange as in mainland Europe, it is only a couple of cent more.

I find that 97+ron gives better 'feel' at higher revs, my car feels a little strangled on 95 ron at full tilt.

As its winter though, I'm considering going back to 'normal' fuel as I'm not likely able to use the power anyhow in this weather.

er 67 pence a gallon, when i first started driving i would drive on to the next pertol station to save 1 pence per gallon

...its like a friend of mine that drives 20 miles to shop at a supermarket where food is a bit cheaper... never mind its cost them £5 more to get there :)

Driving to a shop? What is wrong with online shopping and a £3 delivery charge :D

V-Power all the way for me. I don't care if it's 18p a litre more tbh. It's not about the extra 5bhp (probably less on the M NA engine anyway) it's because my car runs very well on it. I put Tesco 99 in once and got an O2 sensor warning light more or less straight away so it put me off using it. Plus you don't know where Tesco are sourcing that stuff either.

It is sometimes hard to get hold of but that's because it's a niche product meaning that often a filling station will only have 1 or 2 pumps with it on. What happens then is that every petrolhead in the area uses that garage to get the V-Power and it sells out quite fast and takes a while to get re-stocked!!

It was more like a 30bhp loss on an s54b32 between using normal & super.

V-power is 1p more than Tesco round here :)

It's only on half the pumps though

I never put 95 in mine it runs like a dog and is easily 30bhp down between 5k rpm and the red line. No point buying a race horse if you are going to feed it dog food.
