Is this reasonable servicing cost?

My 35i is due for a service in June and I've been quoted £646 by BMW.
Can anyone advise if this is a total rip off or not?

The breakdown of works (excl VAT) that need to be done are:

Service - standard scope £20.64
Engine oil change £168.24 (£116.81 for 6.5L of Mobile 1 oil! )
Microfilter service £44.23
Air filter service £36.96
Spark plug service £136.26
Brake fluid service £70.42
Service, vehicle check £61.92

Would appreciate if you could let me know what you have paid for a similar service.

Also, would I be able to supply my own engine oil? I can buy the same engine oil for less than half what they are charging!
Thanks.

Sorry that I can't help with figures but it seem high to me, plugs £136 :o I'm sure you could source oil and plugs yourself, other members supply their own iirc

i would find a decent independant you can usually find one that is recommended in your local area

Quite right, if they're VAT registered and use OEM parts then I'm pretty sure your warranty stays intact too

Say where you are & sure a good indy can be recommended & save yourself at least £250
those showroom's cost quite a bit to maintain you know

I'd get an Indy price and see if you can knock down the main dealer price.

Having a full main dealer service history has come in handy in the past when needing that slice of goodwill.

Maniac may be able to help, but seeing as the E89 servicing can be a bit variable it would be good to know - how many miles, how old and what is the previous service history with the car?

Thanks guys. I'm located in Aberdeen. The car is a 09 plate with 17500mi on the clock.
Would going to an indi void extended warranty? I guess at the very minimum I should supply my own oil and spark plugs. Btw, I haven't split out labour charges in the above figures. I have no idea why it would take them 5 hours to replace the spark plugs. :? Unless its not hours they quoted on the estimate...if these are hours then they will take 25 hours to service the car lol

Any suggestions on a good indi around Aberdeen?

The labour units aren't hours, they are 5/6 minute periods. Not sure why?

With the BMW warranty you need to stick to main dealer servicing.

Does seem a lot, suppose it should only be once every four years.

I think that only applies to the original 3 year warranty and then after that manufacturers can impose the servicing restriction.

I need to get my car serviced now and want to source my own oil and spark plugs.

Can anyone recommend any good online stores to order from?

For oil, the best price I found so far is around £72 for 7L of Mobil 1 ESP oil and £46 for six Bosch spark plugs.

Thanks.

My own take on this (as mine is due next month and I'll be doing just this) is a) asking the dealer if you can buy the oil yourself without any extended BMW (non OEM) warranty implications and b) ringing around every dealer within 50 miles to get quotes and use this to bash the closest dealer down in price.

As has already been pointed out, its all condition based so prices by car can vary quite a lot.

Opie Oils are usually fairly competitive.
Their current price appears to be £86 for 10 litres (plus delivery) and they have a Price Beater option.

HTH

Euro Car Parts are usually very good for oil and service parts often having discount codes of between 20 and 30%. - Occasionally they have a discount on as high as 33% meaning 8 litres of Castrol 0w 30s Edge cost me £52.

You just need to sign up to their marketing and plan ahead :)
