That's exactly it! I actually have a far smaller than standard lead acid battery in there at the moment that works absolutely perfectly. It's maybe a 1/3 of the size of the box :headbang: . I'm quite happy to keep the toolkit tied down there somewhere and carry a decent tyre gunk in the glove box. It's too heavy and big to relocate though sadly.

Lived there till I went to uni. Now it's just where my rented garage, driveway and roadster storage are - aka parents house!

We should go for a drive towards Oxford and maybe hook up with Machine Monkey Mat for a cheeky half. It's still pretty close for me since I'm in NW London.

You could look at replacing the standard lead-acid battery with something like a Voltphreaks VPH900, it's 250x150x75mm and about 17kg lighter - FemmeT did something similar on his heavily modded Alpina and, as far as the car's electrical system goes, it's supposed to be a drop-in replacement.

When Alpina took the decision to supply the RS with non-runflats, they had to provide an inflation kit and the RS has a very neat insert in the Px-side boot well that takes the tyre gunk, pump and locking nut adaptor - this is what it looks like pulled out of the well

Your going to cut your floor and put a box in??!

The M does not have the box like standard z4.
 
Fair points, I suppose it does make sense. Not sure I want to go that far though.
Keep us updated with that mod, I'd like to see how it turns out..
 
My brother runs an odyssey battery in his Clio and sometimes leaves it for a week without any kind of trickle charge-doesn't seem to cause him any issue. It's not the smallest but it's still a fair chunk of weight saved.
 
I converted my standard Z4 to Z4M quads and fitted a smaller Hawker race type battery by the side of the back box in a cut down battery box. Plenty of room to do such a conversion.
I went that way to keep the boot floor clear vs messy Z4M solution and reduce weight to compensate for the extra back box.
Been running perfect for over 6 years
