Is this a good place for the front axel stand ?

I don't know much about the Z4 but this appears to be the bottom mount for the front coil spring. Looks solid...? For some reason the forum software rotated the photo but I'm sure you can visualize it correctly.

Looks more like an engine mount to me. Stand looks dodgy on the bolt as well, could easily slide off.

jack up via the centre jacking position and use the side jacking positions for the stands.

Do people not rest the axle stands on the wishbones? Never had a problem doing that in any car I've owned.

Srhutch, Yes I’ve got to agree, not much surface area on the head of the bolt.

Chris D, in the post when I asked about jacking the car up earlier, someone posted a photo of a forward jacking pad in the middle, up front but that was on an M version, the non-M does not have the pad. If there is a center front jacking point on non-M, it’s under the plastic splash panel...or the metal panel, so you’ve got to jack the car up to get that off...There in lies the problem.

In that previous post some people mentioned making a lifting bar that spanned front and rear jacking pads and you could lift one side of the car at one time. I started making one out of some pretty heavy rectangular steel tube. It was bending in the middle (didn’t take a permanent set) but it was touching the bottom of the body. I had some angle iron laying around and I welded it in the middle of the part. The whole bar is 4 feet long and the angle iron is about 2 feet. It did better but still bent enough to touch the body before the rear tire was off the ground. I plan on getting more angle and covering the whole length. I will post the details of the bar if it works.

Non M has a central jacking point at the front. Is a little way in, on the front sub-frame, just in front of the front axle.

Oh no it doesn't!
(not without removing the aluminium plate - don't jack on that)

It's the subframe to body bolt. Strong enough. I've used these as temporary stands while I remove the jack from the sill pads. OK as temporary positions but I wouldn't be getting underneath the car.

It's shown on TIS for a non M, I've lifted mine there without damage, using a correctly sized block (there is a depression the same size as the sill jacking points)

It's on the aluminium plate, at the top in this picture, but as far as I can remember it makes contact with the subframe on the other side.

The TIS link definitely shows a non M, there's only an exhaust on one side.

Yeap, that's the one I was talking about.
