Looking to connect up my iPhone 5 to the bmw standard head unit as ideally want to play mp3 music and iTunes tracks. Any suggestions or mods on how to go about doing this?

As above,
But if your budget isn't restricted look at the intravee module especially if you have the nav screen

cheers guys. My 2.5 is fitted with the standard radio/single cd head unit. Sounds like an aux in is going to be the simplest route. How accessible is the rear of the head unit, is it easy to remove from the dashboard? And best place to locate the aux in jack point?

Search the how to section

But air vents come out first , can be apita

Most put aux socket below the heater controls the panel that angels back as its removable, some fit into ash tray

Hi,
I did the aux in option. Got a cable of ebay with the correct plug in pin plug on the end and a female 3.5mm jack on the other. The air vents come out with gentle persuasion and two flat head screwdrivers then the stereo is a couple of screws and its out. i ran the cable inside and put the female aux in jack inside the ashtray, actually the small bit on the right that you are supposed to put the cigarettes out in first as the lead fits a treat in there.

pretty simple, took about an hour and cost approx £15.

itchyfeet.

I only went down the AUX route for my Z4 but I do have one of these in my Type R http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=328&cat=16&page=1

A great bit of kit, allowing you to play via bluetooth from your iPhone. I think you connect this one to the back of the stereo where the CD Changer connection would normally go.

If going down the AUX route a lot of people on here, including me, got their AUX cable from Fruity Car Cables - https://fruitycarcables.co.uk/fruity%20car%20cables/shop/select%20your%20model.ehtml/products/z4-e85-e86-aux.html

Rory is a really good guy to deal with.

I fitted mine by drilling a hole in the panel under the heating dials.

Fm transmitter are good and wireless just plugs into phone sends signal to radio i have two just for odd occasions cost about £15 for a good griffin one

I have a Parrot system in my BMW Z4 that the previous owner installed. It is pretty sweet to say the least! You can play music over bluetooth, aux-in, line-in, USB, and SD card - although i only use the bluetooth. Also, you can make and receive phone calls etc as it syncs your contacts over bluetooth with the microphone attachment. Definitely recommend.
