Is there a clear coat I can spray to protect rust ?!

Strange question I know, but

I have just bought a old rusty/aged looking door bell that I want to look rusty but not rust anymore if left in the garden.
Is there a clear spray that I can spray onto the rust to preserve it ?

The bell is only about 10 inches in overall size.

You mean bought?
There's a program called sin city motors that make rat rods, they usually use a shell from a car from the fifties or something, that are all rusty, they spray a satin clear coat on it to protect it but keep the original look. I'd try a rattle can satin clear.
 
And there I was, coming to make a smart arse remark about protecting rust instead of preventing it. :( damn! Maybe next time. :headbang:
