Is the brake servo painted differently?

Hi all-sounds a stupid question-but then again it is me :oops: -i have been reading on this forum about removing the brake fluid cap before fitting new pads as the fluid will rise to make way for the thicker pads,if this did overflow would it strip the black paint off the servo or has BMW treated this area differently?-sorry i need to get out more! :oops:
 
I doubt it will overflow Andy, never had it happen to me. Put some rags around it and this will capture most. If it does spill out though wash off ASAP.

It will be fine though. :wink:
 
No experience of BMW, sorry, but it does depend on the paint used. Some makes will react some not. However.....if you are expecting to have fluid leak all over the question to ask is should you be doing this operation!!?? :poke: You are right that if you have 'topped up' the fluid as pads have worn when you depress the piston back into the caliper the fluid will return to the reservoir and if you do not have an assistant watching or take care yourself the result is an overflow. I'ts not just the servo...if it runs off that what else does it contact?

best not to have this happen at all rather than worry about the paint
 
I pre-empted this by using a syringe to take 20-30ml of brake fluid out and left the cap on but loose. I only had to top up with a little bit of brake fluid at the end and had no spillage.
