Is my Z4 an MSport or not?

Hello ,

I hope someone can clarify this for me, I have recently purchased my Z4 and I am more than happy with it , I posted a couple of pictures yesterday on a FB group (I have included the pictures below), and today a pretty unpleasant individual has been trolling me telling that it isn't an M sport car?.... it's a 2010 sdrive 23i M sport 2.5 petrol..... well that at least what it's says on the log book!.... well this guy seems to think that they stopped making these in 2008 , I have had a look through eBay & auto trader , there seems to be a lot of 2010' s saying m sport the same year and model as mine?....

Can anyone more knowledgeable in this than me clarify this please?

It is indeed a Msport but not a "///M" division car that the stripes & badge suggests  it does seem to irritate some members of the public who frequent the online world  probably annoy a good few on here too :P
Welcome to the forum

As above and not commenting on your car, but a part of badge engineering that BMW started a few years back adding a few bits of trim, steering wheel and similar, to standard models and adding kudos with M decals and badges. Has nothing to do with the ///M performance division
Most manufactures do similar to varying degrees.

I predict a lot of comments regards this from ///M owners on this forum! The E89 (second generation of the Z4 of which your car is one) was never given any treatment by BMW's fabled M division and no true ///M model was ever produced. BMW have helped to confuse the uninitiated by (some say) cynically exploiting the cache of ///M models in producing M Sport models of the E89 that amount to not much more than cosmetic changes in an attempt to make it look more sporty. The company did stick ///M badges on M Sport versions, further adding to confusion. They never put a badge on the grille though so I'd do yourself a favour and take that off, same if one has been stuck on the boot as well.

To be honest the troll will be some jealous little pick. You could try calling him out on what he drives but no doubt he will just run down to the nearest dealership with a high end sports car and take a picture of himself in it and try to pass it off as his.

Loving the positive comments!!! :D

Mack , I wasn't going to enter into an argument with him , he is a troll
Thanks for the welcomes

It does have the M badge on the boot as well.

I think the red looks pretty cool too !!

Welcome to the forum I personally don't like the stripes sills but each to their own and owners should be able to put whatever they like on their cars. In my youth I once put an E type badge on my anglia estate well it was a 105e!

Loving the colours on your Zed, Lee2603 (even the decals on the sills) BUT, as others have suggested - lose the ///M badges front and rear, it may help stop people commenting that it's pretending to be something it isn't.

Hi and welcome OP.

IMHO you car looks great with that colour combination.

Over the years BMW have started sprinkling M badges in ever larger quantities - my Z4C is a Sport, but there is an M badge on each wheel including the steering wheel!

Nowadays I'd never put any extra ones on (like your grille and boot), but I'll confess to putting GT badges on my first car - a billy-basic Cortina (mind you it did have a 1600E dash in it).

At the end of the day it's your car so it's your choice!
