Is my battery on its way out? Parking sensors and roof issue

Hi all,

I had some issues with my parking sensors the othe day, they were going nuts even when there was no obstruction there, but they seem ok now, they did it for a few days, car hadnt seen a hose pipe or jet wash for a bit so highly unlikely water had caused any issues, and they were all nice and clean, they all buzz/vibrate so they are all working fine.

Over the past few days the roof (when operated by the key fob) tends to only go down half way and then stop, its done it a few times so its not me not applying enough pressure to the button on the fob.

Do these gremlins sound like it could be the battery ? I think the battery is fairly old so it wont do any harm replacing it for peace of mind but just wanted to check that this does sound like the battery giving up the ghost.

My car has both these issues, but I don't think the battery has anything to do with it.

RE the sensors, the control module is known to go faulty, or one of the sensors could be faulty and it indicates this by a constant tone when you put it in reverse. You can check the sensors by putting it in reverse and then putting your ear to each sensor - you should hear a clicking/snapping noise - no noise = faulty sensor. All my sensors seems fine so I think the control unit is bad, but IIRC it is not a cheap part. Also, sometimes fine grit will get stuck in the grooves on the sensor and this can cause it to constantly beep.

RE the roof, I've always assumed the comfort open/close is faulty or the signal from the key to the module is weak and it stops the operation. I've had my roof motor and electrics checked out a few times for other reasons and I know it's in A1 condition, so just one of those things.
 
Thanks for the reply parabolica, I will bear that in mind re the control module for the parking sensors, its stopped doing it but I am pretty sure it will happen again. Re the roof.. your comment about the signal being weak from the key fob has got me thinking!!.... only recently the boot can take a few attempts to open with the key fob, so maybe the key fob needs a new battery? worth a try for a few quid.

Will keep an eye on the parking sensors and will have to look at the module if it continues, all the sensors buzz so seem to be operating ok, so you could be bang on.

I programmed mine to do the roof on the fob, total waste of time, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
 
It's a cheap attempt at a fix especially if old. When my battery was on its way out the windows would play up when opening the doors. Real random.
