Is it possible to convert from an Automatic to a Manual Hood

Yeah I believe you're correct about the layers. I'm pretty sure if you removed the pump and drained the hydraulic lines will be possible to move by hand just fine, but more importantly you'll have to retrofit the manual locking mechanics. By the time you do that you might as well just replace the motor...

There was no standard manual hood on the Z4 unless im very much mistaken. They are all electric with a hand winder for emergencies IIRC

Electric hood was standard in the UK but an option in some markets such as US.
Guys are right that the manual is a single layer fabric and would need more work to convert (it it even can be), than replacing the motor.
Not sure how the mechanism would stand up to manual opening and closing on the much heavier structure.

I wonder how many KG that saves over the electric setup if you're into using 10/10th of the performance..
