Is it me?

Went for breakfast at M and S this morning with my good lady and a couple of friends, All was well for a short while. Then two young women arrived with a young child. I would guess she was about three years old. Then everything changed. The child was not happy with the food and drink mum purchased for her. She began to scream and shout and run about the cafe. This went on for some time. Mum and friend made no effort to stop the bad behaviour. Eventually the child returned to the table. First she climbed on her chair standing up and shouting at  mum. Then she walked across the table sending food and drink in all directions. At that point mum tried to distract her by waving a serviette and running around the cafe herself. It worked. The youngster followed her laughing parent as she ran amongst the tables. By this time people were leaving. Eventually mum returned to the table with child who then reverted to her previous behaviour, shouting and screaming. The ladies in the cafe looked absolutely bemused.
Mum and friend didn’t seem at all concerned by what was happening. God help the school this child eventually attends.
Eventually we couldn’t stand it any longer and left before I was in trouble for assaulting someone.
Is it me getting old and lacking tolerance? 😡😡😡

No it’s not you, it’s this country, no one seems to give a dam about anyone else anymore. My wife used to enjoy the theatre but doesn’t go anymore due to people talking all the time. My son lives in Japan, it’s so much better there he says, more respect for each other.

This sort of thing is my pet hate.

Since I've retired and as I've got older I find going to any public places less and less desirable, seem to have adopted a retirement bubble and just cannot tolerate most people's behaviour in public these days.

In this case looks to be a classic case of non parenting and the lack of appropriate discipline.

I remember as a child the good hidings I had and it certainly taught me right from wrong, need I day more.

Tim.

I can remember not being allowed to play outside on a Sunday. Now, kids next door kicking footballs into our garden and once smashing the top trellis from our fence. I had a go at them, the father rather than telling them off had a go at me. Needless to say we don’t talk anymore.

If you want to get really annoyed, Ian, ask my wife to share some of the stories she has about working in a (poor area) primary school and the lack of consequences for the little darlings when they do stuff.

The kids at her school regularly walk along corridors and physically assault staff for no reason. We would have been shot at dawn for behaviour like that. Although of course we would never have behaved like that because it just wasn't acceptable and wouldn't have even entered our heads.

When I think of child discipline always reminds me of this,

The 70s, a great era to grow up in, a good spanking at school, buy some ciggies on the way home on me Raleigh Chopper, fish and chip tea whilst watching Blue Peter and then out until 10pm trying to look over 16 at the local pub off licence  . The Saturday treat TV was wrestling in the afternoon and the Generation Game in the evening

Feel sorry for Today's kids. My neighbours kids never seem to go out, always sitting in the house playing computer games

I was a headteacher in primary schools for over twenty years and have taught in some pretty tough areas. But I am so glad not to be doing the job now. My daughter works as a supply teacher and recently a secondary youngster dropped his trousers in the lesson and ‘mooned’ at her. The parents were called in but refused to accept that their child would do such a thing. They then accused the school of victimising the lad because he had difficulty in conforming.
We live in a strange world now. Looking at the so called ‘soft parenting’ approach is it any wonder that society is in such a mess? I really do despair for the future. :headbang:

Yes, and Dr Who, the real one of course :D

Could never get enough of UFO, the ladies in their jumpsuits and silver short skirts created quite an impression on a teenager :o

It isn't just you Ian, that sort of thing does my head in too.

With parenting like that I hate to think how future generations of adults will turn out.

I can't stand unruly kids and parents that just ignore them, there's no need for it but that's just how this world seems to be going.

I hope one day an airline decides to have an adults only fight as a test. Perhaps to a popular destination one flight per week. I think they will soon realise they are onto a big money earner
