IS IT A GOOD TIME TO BUY A CURRENT Z4?

Hi Everyone,

Here goes my first post!

I'm on the verge of getting a z4. Bored of my golf and fancying some fun in the sun.

Here's the question: Is it a good time to buy a Z4 or should I be waiting to see what happens with the new one. I'm fairly impulsive and like the cut and lines of the current model.
I've test driven a 3.0si and enjoyed it to say the least. I'm looking at around the 20 -23k region and hoping to pick up one that's around a year old.

Is this the right thing to do? Do you think the prices of the current models will come down substantially once the new one comes out?
How much can you realistically get off.
A dealer has said he's a 3.0si still in the factory in Stratus Grey, comfort pack and heated seats. He's called and asked how much I want to pay. He's already said he'd knock off the depreciation (8k) and was willing to go further.

Thanks for you time!

In the current climate its a buyers market, there are some good bargains to be had so push as much as you can!

Have you not thought about going for the M version?

Welcome to the forum :D

Only you can say what is right for you.... Do you even like the look of the new one, from what I have read they have changed the character of the new one versus the old one. there will likely be more niggly new car problems with the new one (as there is with any new model - in my experience!).

8k + off a brand new but older model - cant be a bad deal

20-23k... bloody hell mate, get the M!!! With the new "M" a very long way off at the very least, you could grab yourself something special for that money :D

Hi,

Not a great fan of the new look, slightly over cooked in the luxury department.

So I'm pretty sure it's the current version I'll go for. I've been told there's a 2006 'M' roadster coming in time this week. It's got 34,000 miles on the clock and in budget.
My worry is about the age. Are there any common issues I should be looking out for? I'm questioning if it's better to get a newer 3.0si or the older 'M'. I'm sure when I drive the 'M' it'll blow me away.
So many decisions!!!! Which is good I guess :)

2006 with 34k on the clock should be below £20k.

You can get a 2007 with 10k on the clock for £23k.

Of course it'll all depend on colour.

You can do alot better than a 2006 M with 34k for your budget, trust me i've just done the same last week.

This is really useful stuff to know. Thanks for the heads up!

This was the spec I was sent through: They said it would be 20k

Z4 M Roadster
Silver Grey
Black Nappa leather
Navigation-system Professional
Bluetooth phone preparation
6 Disc CD changer
Upgraded Loudspeaker system
Multi-function steering wheel control
Alarm system (Thatcham)
Fully Automatic Hood
Rear-view mirror with automatic dimming
Electric Front Seats + Drivers memory
Seat heating. Front
Headlight wash
Rain sensing wipers with automatic lights
Xenon headlights
Automatic Air Conditioning
White Indicator Lens

Navigation-system Professional
Bluetooth phone preparation
6 Disc CD changer
Upgraded Loudspeaker system
Seat heating. Front

Think these are the optional extras, the rest being standard on the M (please correct me if i'm wrong somebody).
This is the 2006 34k car? tbh i think you can do better easily, the links i posted had a Dec 06 with less than half the mileage for £21k and i paid less than that for my 07.

That sounds about right, to be honest, as a starting block. Reckon you could get it for £19k. Wouldn't pay £20k for it!

The xenons are also an option I believe.

Sorry Duckson, I've just seen the links, thanks for those. Yes that was the spec of the car I mentioned.
You're right about what you can get for you money. I'll keep looking.

You've now got me seriously considering an M. I bet they sound great and the drive of course.
Right I'm off to check insurance costs :)

I think Duckson picked up his 07 for a shade over £20k, with low mileage.

If you want an Si, there's now very little I don't know about them (on paper), so feel free to PM me.

Word of warning,,,,DO NOT Drive the //M unless you are fully prepared to buy one, or donate a few organs to obtain it.

Ha. I had a feeling that may be the case, I think it'll be rude not to test drive it. If I like it that much I'll offer my sister!

Saying you will do the test drive means you have lost already,
better start looking for a way to get some extra cash to be ready to do the transaction, if needed.
After that test drive you won't be sleeping well until that car is in your backyard

Be aware that the running costs will be more on the M than the others in the range.....mpg, servicing, insurance etc.
