Is a pre-owned //M a good idea

I'm looking to get Z4 and have been looking at the 2006 3.0si but I can't seem to get the //M (2006) out of my mind 8) . Being that the //M is a high performance car is it a good idea to buy one pre-owned. Also, besides the valve adjustments is there a big difference in maintenance cost between the 3.0si & the //M?

Because of lease etc in the US you really need one of the guys from over there to comment on running costs. I thought maintenance costs were included for 4 years there.

In terms of buying a pre-owned car, don't let that put you off, even an ///M - they're built to be thrashed.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy pre-owned. Avoid that immediate depreciation suffered when it's driven off the lot. And yes, your maintenance should be covered for the first 4 years.

Buying preowned will save you a bunch - but make sure you can afford the extra servicing costs (if you pay for servicing) and the insurance costs (if you pay for insurance ;))

For a 2006 w/roughly 3-6k miles anywhere from $42000 - $52000. I saw an auto (SMG I think) for $39,999. I was concerned about maintenance cost after the 4 years. But if valve adjustments are needed every 15k miles or so, thats fine.

Kappa have a look at zroadster.net and see how many 10 year old Z3 M are still hapily running about

So when the huge value drop levels off ... the savings are being taken up by the expensive maintenance

An ///M is always a good idea in my opinion. Sure - maintanence can be pricey - but so are monthly car payments. There are advantages as well as disadvantages to having a monthly payment....

My Infiniti is paid off and it does not give me any trouble. Even if I have to pay 2-4K/year for something - it is still cheaper than a car payment.
