Iridium Engineering Recommendation and Some Photos! (Inspection II)

Hi,

Just thought I'd share these photos with you. Iridium Engineering took them whilst they had my car in for Inspection II.

I'd never used Iridium Engineering before, in fact I'd never even heard of them, but their website, professionalism and general helpfulness over the phone and email inspired a lot of confidence. I particularly liked the fact they had a page on their website dedicated to the S54 engine.

So I booked myself in and dropped the car down there for a few days. A couple of days later I was told that the service was done, three valve clearances needed adjusting (they provided a before and after comparison and measurements of all clearances), and that one of my brake calipers had seized. They even sent me a Youtube walkaround video showing the wheel spinning on the good side, and the other wheel seized on the bad side, also the damage caused to the disc.

I confirmed that I'd like the brake caliper replacing (price was very reasonable) and collected the car the next day, all fixed and cleaned too.

What a difference! The new gear oil has really improved the gearshift. So much slicker than before, the diff also doesn't make any noise around tight roundabouts anymore. I'm sure it goes faster now that the front brake isn't dragging too!!

All in all, very happy with the car and extremely pleased with the service from Iridium Engineering. Approximately half the price that the BMW main quoted me, and probably a much more thorough job. I would highly recommend them to anyone on the south coast.

Used Iridium a few times now for various bits and bobs and found Sean to be excellent.

I was chatting to him after he'd completed some work about the condition of my Vanos unit and he popped back into the workshop and came back with his diagnostics machine, plugged it in and ran a full Vanos test cycle. No charge and about 10mins out of his time for my piece of mine.

The only down side with them is their location is a bit remote.... got a taxi into Southampton and did some shopping with the Missus, so she was happy(ish).

Just watched u tube video
How did you not notice that caliper???

good stuff.....

nice to see any z4m get some love!!

how frequent do you change the oil on this car?? surprised to see the internals of the top end such a gold colour on a low mile engine like this.... (unless i have the wrong vehicle)

also on the gearbox oil, i had mine done last year and was literally shocked how much difference it made to the shift quality..... massive!!

What oil did you got for, Beedub? I'm starting to think it's my next job to do as this isn't the first time I've heard someone say this about their Z4M!

Mine has done 40k miles. I owned it for 6 months back in 2011, and have only just bought it back again a month ago. This is the first time I've had the oil changed. It does have quite a few stamps in the book. All BMW main dealer except the last two.

I had only just bought the car (for the second time around!). Had barely driven it.

Let you off;)
Would've thought it would have pulled to the right Alot and harder when braking
Glad got sorted buddy
