iPod - update

My CD is playing up so I thought I'd make use of the Aux port (I have a factory fitted one under the dash).
I don't want to spend a fortune so was considering an cheap iPod.
Does anyone use an iPod through their Aux port, also can you buy cradles for them. I'm considering the iPod shuffle cos its only £40

hi marlon, i use my iphone all the time using the FF Aux in, but i've re-routed the cable so it comes out at the back of the handbrake as i cant help think it looks really un tidy coming out of the dash like it does, you can get a cradle for an iphone/ipod touch - theres a guy on here selling one, not sure about the shuffle as they are so small, but will fit nicely in the ash tray :)
 
I use mine and use the ashtray when I am using it along with one of those self spooling leads. I have lined the ashtray with photographers case foam to help grip the ipod when moving. Can also have the ipod on charge with it sitting here too.
 
i use my old iPhone 4 (as it had loads of music saved) in the car daily, i use a blue tooth adapter plugged into the aux and then have a magnetic circle bit stuck to the back of my old iphone 4 so i get in and then just put it near the vent mount and the magnetic mount just sucks its out my hand and onto the mount, and it even comes with a spare magnetic pad which i have put in my iPhone 5 case so if I'm gonna do any long trips and need sat nav i can inter change the 2 phones on the magnetic pad and have no wires

Thanks Jingle - haven't got an iPhone, otherwise I would go for your Bluetooth set up.
Jamie and AlfaScozzesi - I think I will get a shuffle simply because it will fit in the ashtray like you say.
 
do ipod shuffles not have bluetooth?

i found when i used to use the aux cable when i 1st got my car the phone always flew out the ash tray when i went round corners, shuffle might sit better in the ash tray tho

According to Google - ipod shuffles don't have blue tooth.
I have just bought a retractable 3.5mm lead and will get a shuffle on the way home - stick it in the ashtray as others suggest

Neat job Gary - I've bought the iPod shuffle and ordered a retractable cable so the trains' kinda left the station. Not sure I'd have the confidence to attempt your solution mind you, but its very impressive nonetheless :thumbsup:
 
The beauty of the shuffle is its so damn small - I mean like 'postage stamp' small. Will sit in the ashtray no trouble. Its only 2Gig but hell I only listen to half a dozen or so albums at any one time - used to using a 6 CD changer in my previous motor. The Aux lead is arriving tomorrow so I will be setting it up and going for a drive (any excuse :) )
 
Update -

iPod shuffle connected to Aux with retractable cable. Neat enough for me :)

Very tidy solution, but you lose any control over it through the steering wheel controls, or the radio head unit. You don't want to be fiddling with it while driving (or the iPod...). :P

:D basically just press play in 'shuffle' mode and thats it - other than volume which I control from the main car cd/radio :)
 
Fair enough, and it does look good - almost OEM with that colour and the retractable aux cable :thumbsup:
