ipod interface

was looking on ebay for an ipod interface to connect my ipod to and then store it in the glove box while it charges and also have some controls on the ipod
there are loads at differnet prices from about 30 to 130 quid
has anyone got one or recomendations

I have also decided to use a cradle by Spec.Doc which sits in the ashtray so requires no dash mount. You can google Spec.Doc to see this. It is quite pricey and I have seen a forum topic where some of the more adept forum members have made these for themselves.

I am looking at the Intravee solution which others have used. Similar to the Dice I think. All in all it isn't going to be cheap the route I'm heading.

Also look at the dension 300 its cheaper than the intravee which is overkill if you don't have Nav
 
just put a parrot in my old beat up rangie and it works a treat .........
Id like to put one in the z4m but the idea of pulling the radio out just to see what sockets are on the back is putting me off.
......... and if its not a plug and play (ie, ive gotta do loadsa wire splicing) then I wouldn't do it .....

spill the beans Taz...... is it an easy fix ????? :D :D

I'm happy with my Dice Mediabridge 1500. The Ipod/Iphone controls work great with the factory radio. Check their website for compatibility with your model Z4 before ordering.

I had a parrot in my old z4, you just need the correct iso loom.

I have one, you can have it for 7.50 posted if you want.

If you do have bluetooth, then I went for this... http://diceelectronics.com/duo-ipod-sirius

The Dice also gives you multi line text display if you have sat nav or if you just have the standard Business head unit and is much cheaper than the Intravee and other bits required to make it fit. It works really well. The steering wheel buttons change track, it charges iPhones and iPods too. Really pleased with it. I also went for the Brodit Pro Clip dash mount and the pass through iPhone 4 holder. I hid the Dice control box underneath the ash tray and ran the iPod wire out from between the carpet and leather of the centre console in the passenger footwell. This wire then plugs into the pass through holder permanently. Now, all I do is drop my phone into the holder when I get in. Nothing to plug in, no wires hanging around. Perfect solution. I fitted the Dice kit easily and quickly. Did it in one evening, in the dark!

If you don't have bluetooth, I'd probably go for the Parrot to give you bluetooth too although it's a bit more expensive.

The Dice Mediabridge 1500 includes bluetooth as well. You can select artist, track, playlist, or podcast using the radio station buttons, and, like dan yeates said, the steering wheel controls work great to select the next song/artist/playlist, etc.
You may or may not need the DSP adapter, depending on 1) the year of your car, and 2) your audio setup, which you have to visibly inspect in the trunk. I didn't need the DSP adapter, even though I have DSP, due to my audio setup in the trunk. According to bavariansoundwerks:

If you have a 2003 Z4, you most definitely need the additional DSP adapter.
If you have a '04-'09 Z4, you MAY need the DSP adapter (see below)
What if I might need the additional DSP adapter?
We need to locate the factory CD Changer Connections to identify which set of cables are present. Head to our youtube channel (BavSound) and search for your vehicle's iPod Integration Kit install guide (example: Z4 iPod) to see the location of the factory CD Changer connections. There will be one of the three sets of connections present in your BMW which will determine whether you need a DSP adapter:
(3 pin male, 6 pin male) - You do not need the additional DSP adapter.
(3 pin male, round coaxial cable) - You need the additional DSP adapter.
(3 pin male, 6 pin male, round coaxial cable) - You probably don't need the additional DSP adapter. You may wish to order it just in case, but may have to return it.
 
well job done, got a parrot and the extra loom from Halfords ....
appreciate the offer srhutch ..... 7.50 was well cheap, but Halfords had one today (sunday) and Im on a road trip tomorra ......

went in dead easy, just plug and play, hide the wires, sorted. :thumbsup:
 
teamemmenracing, which parrot did you get and where have you mounted it?

i bought a brodit mount for mine, i have the mki9200
 
same here..... the i9200

Mounted it so its not in yer face, but I can see it through the wheel .....

i put the speakers above the mirror and the controls on the centre consol

i was concerned about sticking on the dash, thats why i fitted the brodit clip
