iPhone query??? Anyone help?

I got a new iphone5 from work and a strange thing has happened tonight, I replied to an i message ( text was sent and coloured blue as opposed to green).

It whizzed off ok then a little later my daughter, who has an iPhone 4S, asked me " dad have you used my phone to send a message?"

My reply had appeared on her phone too ?????

She shares the same apple id as me, could this be the reason?

It's never happened before when I had my 3GS.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance

Ps I'm having a new iPhone 5 delivered tomorrow as there's a fault connecting to the wifi ?

Blue messages are iMessages not texts and if you have iCloud synchronisation on all devices it will appear.

I have my messages iCloud sync'd to my Mac so they appear on either device if I want to message that person.

Not sure that 3GS had iMessages? or maybe you didn't have iCloud sync'd on that device?

Just to clarify - iMessages are free and are only for iPhone to iPhone.

Thanks, my 3GS was updated by out IT dept so the messages appeared blue in colour after that, my daughter says she doesn't have I cloud and to be honest I'm a bit of a numpty with technology

If she sets up her own id will this stop do you think?

Ta

To confuse the matter even further, I have just sent a message to my son, who has a 4S too and that has gone as a txt not i message :? :? :?

Haha ;)

Yes, set her up with a different iCloud id & iMessage won't sync between the phones...

not everyone has their imessage turned on i dont think....
some ppl i know who has an iphone seem to get sent as a text and not imessage....but imessage uses your internet allowance...so maybe they turn it off as most ppl have unlimited text

If for some reason (eg limited network coverage, his phone is off for a period) the iMessage (blue) isn't delivered for a certain period of time then it defaults to a text message (green)

He may have iMessages turned off? Or network strength can make it revert to text rather than iMessage - if there is no internet connection it will default back to text.

That's right Woots - iMessage uses cell data or wifi, tho tbh it uses a hardly any data so as not to be worrying about the allowance...

Not 100% certain but I think the problem would be because of using the same apple id as I think this is used for sending imessages.

Thankyou all!

Is it easy for her to change her account?

Will she lose any data?

Sorry to be a pain but I'm using the power of the forum

It's the apple ID, easy to change, just create a new one, go to setting, log you out and log her in.

As said iMessage are blue, iPhone to iPhone as long as theyre connected to the net and iMessage is turned on.

The main benefit is confirmation it's delivered and free media messaging.

I sometimes have that problem when texting friends with iMessage it will say on my end delivered under the message I sent then a day later after checking it has an " ! " in a circle next to the sent message I press it and it says message could not be sent try again? Or sometimes if I don't have a connection it will ask me to send it as a text or iMessage that could be a reason

All it's really used for is to have an account that has music connected to it you might wanna call apple support to get the details first so basically you use the account buy music on the account and the music is on that account and when the account is connected to a device that device gets the music
