Iphone password

A friend has somehow got her iPhone 6 in a state where it needs the password for her Apple ID
1 She has not only forgotten ( and not written it anywhere )
2 Forgotten the answers to her security questions
3 Not backed it up on another device

She can receive calls but nothing else and Apple say that the only way is to provide a purchase invoice to prove ownership.

Does anybody know a way around this please?

I can see why Apple do this ( to protect against theft) however I know with 100% certainty this is her phone.

If she got it on contract, she'll be able to get an invoice.

Failing that and she can't remember her security questions ( and doesn't want to wipe the phone) I assume she hasn't backed it up to the iCloud, she could try Disklabs in Birmingham. They unlocked my cousin's ipad when she locked herself out as she confused and had cancer. When she passed we had the same issue but could actually get her AppleID, but she had locked to the device permemnantly.

They got in. But it won't be cheap.

I would try remembering her security questions or her password.

She treated her security questions like passwords,,,!
Unsure what she gave as the name of first pet.
Can’t remember what her dream job choice was.

The sad thing is that her business depends on her phone and she still thinks Apple are just being awkward!

It’s very difficult to help some folk

If all else fails at least she can revert to factory settings, but she will loose everything on the phone.

Nope Apple are not being difficult. Sadly if you lock yourself out, forget your password and luck out on your recovery options, it’s going to be very hard to get it back.

She may have the basics (contacts, mail and a few other things) on the free iCloud account.

I agree - 100%
They do it in order to protect the majority !
I think the only glimer of hope that she has is if she can produce a purchase invoice to verify ownership.

To forget a password is always a possibility but the name of your first pet? Which town did your parents meet?

If it goes back to factory settings she will have to start from scratch but of course she won’t have her Face Book/ eBay/etc passwords but they are less protected .

Whatever happens it’s me that will get the mucky end of the stick !

To paraphrase Oscar Wild:
“To lose one password may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose three looks like carelessness.”

Can she even reset it back to factory?

I thought they are locked to the users iCloud account now and you can’t re-register until that account signs out of the device.

+1

That's my understanding too, if she doesn't have her icloud password, the device can't be reactivated, period.

Must be blonde   :poke:

As an update, she was able to get a letter from he service provider who was also the phone supplier, showing the phone details, imei etc, when the phone was last used — Apple then accepted that as proof of ownership and released their grip.
As she doesn’t have a pc or Mac she had take it to the Apple store to be set up with a new Apple ID and password .
I’ve now stored a copy of her usernames and passwords for any future losses.
I’m sure she’s learned a lesson the hard way.

Good to hear she was able to get it resolved, and as mentioned, hopefully lesson learned.
I've really had to bite my tongue when called out to troubleshoot EFTPOS faults, and the store manager/owner is hovering over my shoulder asking when will it be fixed, it's 'business critical' and they can't function without it, losing money, blah blah blah. If it was so critical why don't they have a failover to the mobile network in place? 'Normal' network goes down, system switches to cellular and carries on.
Oh wait, it costs money, and while the normal system is working it's just not a priority. But when it fails..... :headbang:
Some people just can't help themselves...

Where I work has an Apple repair centre - I spoke with one of the guys and he pretty much said that without the apple id/password (and no invoice etc), you are well and truly screwed, they can't do anything, even as an authorised repairer.
