Looking for help with iphone connection via intravee on a Z4MR

The car has a iphone cradle fitted which is charging the phone.

However no music plays.

Flashes up track 001 but then says no ipod connected.

I can set the music playing on the phone when not in cradle but when it goes into cradle it mutes it but doesn't play through car system :x

Has anyone had this issue or can anyone give me advice on what to check or setting to change.

If you are talking about the phone cradle in the fold down section it won't work, that just for charging and reception with a phone. The intravee plug as just that on the end or a lead probably located in one of the shelves in the rear centre console.

Just checked and there are no leads in shelves.

There are two leads from the Alpine unit in the boot and both appear to go to the cradle.

There is a black lead which comes from the unit marked ipod and a blue one which is marked Ai-net.

One of the leads to the cradle is black. The other has an outer sheath but I imagine it is the blue one.

Pulling the carpet back there are various multi coloured wires going nowhere!!!

Not sure how the cradle is removed to check the leads

You need to find where the black ones goes, that where you need to connect you iPod.

In time I would also looks to relocate the unit either behind the firewall carpet or in the cabin in the rear bulkhead as that install looks lazy.

Total agree. Piss poor and will be relocated in summer

Any idea how to get cradle out of the holder. Don't want to break anything with too much brut force and ignorance

Couple of old credit cards will get the holder out, all in the link I posted.

Just tried it and it won't budge.

How many clips are they? 2 at back? 1 either side near back? any at the front?

Even a screwdriver down the side wouldn't budge it :headbang:

TBH I wouldn't bother, I don't believe it will be anything other than the standard iPhone connector.

Tracing the black wire out of the alpine unit is what you need to do. I notice a hole in the rear of the tray and a few screws, this would be the logical place to feed the iPhone through.

The black wire seems to go under the cradle so it is going to have to come out

I thought the cable coming through from the phone cradle is only connected to the phone module? In my cradle this is the one covered in the sheath.

I would be interested in seeing how (if) the intravee cable connects with the phone cradle, as the cradle sits in a generic socket. Is the black cable fed under the phone cable and along the transmission tunnel trim perhaps?

Having thought about this further, I tend to think that both cables are going to the front of the car. The sheathed cable connecting to the hifi/Sat Nav and the black cable which is the Ipod cable must be hid behind something.

Will have a better look tonight

If the cable in the sheath is not the blue cable from the Alpine unit then this is routed in a totally different place :D

Who know!!! :headbang:

The blue one connected to the intravee so I wouldn't worry about that one two much at the minute.

The black one for the iPod is 2M long so wont get too far unless they have put an extension on it. THe other end has to be in a limited number of locations such a glove box, rear centre console. Rear seat storage boxes if yo h ave them or maybe even under a seat. Looking how it's been installed any of those locations could be possible.

I have had a better look tonight and both wires come into the car via the larger speaker behind the passenger seat.

The blue goes to the Intravee which is located in the same speaker behind the drivers seat.

The black wire has the iphone connector end but has an extension lead connected by a male to female connector and this disappears to somewhere else in the car. :(

Have pushed and pulled (carefully) all wires I could see I worked out that the black wire does go to the phone cradle in the drop down panel.

I got the cradle out and the wire does go in the back which is obviously non standard and is to make it possible to interface the iphone from the cradle.

With all wires visible, I tried the connection again and it recognised the interface and displayed the song being played but the sound was distorted.

The extension lead for some reason had a male to female connector which is not needed so I removed and connected the two leads together and guess what - it works - music interface from the charging cradle. It appears the issue was a loose connection at the extension lead so an easy but time consuming fix.

However, the battery went flat so I didn't get to try it for long.

Hope this is not a separate problem. I left the drop down panel open last night and noticed that the sat nav was flashing when the ignition was not on and the courtesy light in there was also on. May be this has drained the battery?? Any ideas?

you may need a scosche connector as the 5v wire was changed between iPhones (versions 3S to 4 IIRC...)
