iPhone, BlueTooth, Audio Streaming...(e89)

OK, so I've finished playing with most of the toys in 'The Beast' ;) ... One feature I read about online was the ability to stream audio from a mobile phone to the nav/audio system. The phone is paired, works on calls etc, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to stream the audio over bluetooth and I'm starting to wonder if there's a bit thats not been specced on the car, hence no streaming. Any thoughts anyone?

I think you need a special cable/adaptor for this. But you car has hard drive, so you can store all the tracks on the drive.

My car has connectivity package but no media package (i.e. no sat sav), I use 8GB USB stick.

I also cannot get Bluetooth streaming music (HTC Desire though - not an iPhone). If you get the cradle you can play wired music , or you can get various cables instead for USB / power (but don't expect more than 500mA).

In the end I went for a tiny 16G Lexar memory stick that just stays there and won't get knoched as it only sticks out by a few mm. I'll work on the streaming again another day :)

BMW have also released an updated iPhone app recently - many toys (but no sigh on an Android app - perhaps I'm the wrong demographic...)

...and congratulations!

Yeah, i'd like some info on that too. I haven't got the navigation package and hard drive and stupidly i didn't choose the usb connector. I do have bluetooth and a cradle. The iphone is a pain all round i think and i have had lots of problems recently with the bluetooth losing connectivity to the car. I can play music from the iphone to the car through the auxilliary point but you can't control the music from the steering wheel controls.

Aha if its a feature of later builds, that would explain it. Mine is Sept 2009. I can live without it, 120GB ipod using the USB/AUX is fine/nicely hidden (and an easier way to transport music to the car), and the Nav has the HD storage if I want instant access. It was simply a 'oh, does it do that too, lets try that', but now I have my question answered, thank you.

Slight side-track, but then its new-toy related :)

When in the settings in the Nav, you can set which doors to unlock from the fob... I note 'drivers door', 'all doors' and 'comfort access' (i think thats what the latter one was). Now I'm fairly sure I don't have comfort access as well it wasn't specced and you can't start the car without the key in... so I'm curious why it says that on the options within the nav as I'd expect that to only show if you indeed had it?

From memory (its too cold to go out to the garage to look!) I think the 'comfort access' option means it drops the windows by 1/2" when unlocking.

Will look for the link it was posted on here a few months back and looks perfect for me and missus birthdays in March when its due!

"You need to have the "Combox" option - which is only fitted to Sept 2010 build cars onwards AFAIK"

Is the "Combox" something that can be added to earlier Sept 09 35i?

Also, if you have the iphone 4 snap-in cradle will you be able to see the album art, and/or videos, and control your iphone music through the idrive, again on a Sept 09 35i?

Interestingly......

Was playing an audio recording i'd made on my iPhone yesterday. The phone was connected to the audio system via the USB connector. However, I reached my destination and unplugged my phone so as to leave the car. Ordinarily this would cut the audio off. However, it carried on streaming. If you've got an iPhone, the self made audio recordings are transmitted via Bluetooth.....
