Ipad Air - Crack in glass :/ options?

Hi guys

After a little advice I have an iPad air 128gb and the glass has now got a number of cracks on it after my daughter decided to drop a toy on it... tbf not from a great hight at all. The LCD is fine its just the thin glass front. I suppose what the best route to get it fixed any recommended companies etc , i understand the warranty becomes void if used outside company but am between a rock and a hard place ... wanting to avoid using household insurance if I can and Apple are talking about 200 quid...to replace which seems a bit steep... seeing we paid 640 quid only in April for the unit

Any advice would be appreciate

We have a guy in our local shopping centre who replaces phone screens, so I would assume an iPad is similar. Check eBay...if you are technically minded there will be guides online (youtube etc) on how to change them, or see if you have a local guy/shop that will do it.
 
Just be careful with these "fix it" guys.

IME with helping friends the new panels of glass are usually low quality no where near as good as the original. They usually don't replace the rubber gasket and it doesn't fit well as the original one isn't meant to be parted from the original panel.

Ive fixed a few iPhones by buying a pane from ebay, but like above they are never the same, I don't think the new panels are toughened glass either, hard to find info about where they come from and how strong they are. Best thing to do is try and get it repaired by a genuine retailer, hopefully with an original pane of glass.

TBH they are pretty easy to replace if your handy with a screwdriver. You can go to iFixit.com and there are step by step instructions I have used before. Great resource they also sell original apple parts but when you see the price you might think twice :S

ideal thanks guys that looks ok to carry out myself , taken a few headlight apart before seems a similar process think I might have a go myself. As its only the glass that cracked and not even the LCD which does seem a tad more complex .. hmm will need that kit mind you :?
 
Its only going to get harder now apple has made the display one piece in the 6, its the touch, the backlit display and the glass in one now.

I have mobile cover so if it was my iPhone would be fine , but it does not cover iPads :(
 
Apparently apple are going to announce the new ipad air 2 this thursday... Not that i am trying to sway you in anyway... But the 128gb air still fetch a pretty penny on ebay, even with damage.... Maybe easier to sell it there and get the new one :fuelfire:

Foneangels did my 1st gen ipad for £100, it did have to go back though as they left a speck of dust/crud under the screen at first attempt. They did well to minimise damage to surround (twice) though

Apple do not replace screens on iPads ,they will exchange for a service replacement refurbished unit identical to donor for £249
iPads are not user serviceable therefore any "tampering"will void any remaining warranty and also any future service support from Apple on that device
If you had purchased Applecare + you have 2 x strikes at a replacement unit for a excess fee of £39 each time
ps
Apple do not sell spares anywhere so a purchase will NOT be a genuine Apple glass
