Intravee vs Dension?

Hi guy's..Was looking at getting a AUX cable from bmw will un-jamming my CD player. For £40 odd.

Start to do some research on the forums about the above systems but i'm not sure how they work?

I understand the AUX from bmw will only let me see songs and change tracks through the IPOD? ?Won't display tracks on the screen?

Most i mostly like the idea of the dension or intravee is that i can buy a cheap 4gb pen drive in my glove box.. no wires..no nothing and change songs through my standard head unit.

But I've got SAT NAV...And Carver sound system upgrade with no CD changer?Which is the best for me?Can the intravee do the same as the dension accepting a cheap USB stick? What else can they do?there alot more expensive that a AUX cable from BMW?

Searching on the forums and looking on the internet still a bit confused to what they actual do for the £150

And which is the best for me?

Intravee will not accept a USB stick, it has an iPod plug on it.

Ok...Cool but will the dension work well with my Sat Nav and carver sound ? IS there any difference between the 2 systems? heard the intravee work's alot better with the Sat Nav car's? Not sure how tho?

Getting really confused buy all these different options... :(

I was gonna get get a MINI AUX cable but i don't want a ipod hanging around in the car as i wanna change through the stereo

Id personally not bother with the AUX with a Carver unless you have a Line Level output (not earphone). Mine sounds like crap on earphones as the Headunit input does not go through the DSP. I am a bit of an audiophile though, for many people it'd be fine!

Ive found a cheapo Ebay FM tuner that plugs into the dock of an Iphone to be quite good (charger too!).

Intravee can do all of this that a Dension can't. Also, Dension just does not work ... just search for problems and Dension and you will have pages and pages of hits, including one video on the US site where someone blows the Dension up.

I fitted mine in about 45 minutes. Biggest part of the job is getting to the cd changer cable which is taped down to the middle console, other then that no connections to make, no cables to cut, no cables to solder - just plug and play.

So the if you have carver you better for the dension or intarvee? What's DSP?

Digital Sound Processing.

Carver or non Carver makes no difference for chosing Dension or Intravee. More a case of Satnav or No Satnav ...

THose screenshops mean nothing to me? lol ? So basically it's no good?

It means that with an Intravee you get control over your iPod just like you you have on your ipod itself. Basically, it makes your Nav screen look like an iPod screen.

Is this a DIY fitting job assuming my minimal level of ability with this sort of thing?

Well i don't have a CD changer so that's good (as in being easy to fit) but I have a Sat NAV screen..Does intravee charge say an old style ipod nano? I just wanna leave it in the glove box and only take it out when i wanna put songs on.That's why i was interested in the dension cos i can stick 2-3gb on a 4 gb usb stick leave it in the glove box and forget about it.

DSP ..digital sound processing? So all Z4's have this? OR jsut SAT NAV ones?
Btw guys do all 3.0 come with Carver?Or is it actual an option on my car?

1. Yes - Nano is fine.
2. Not glove box as the cables are not long enough, put it where I did.
3. DSP is an extra, not relating to SatNav - different tick box.
4. No - Sound is not relating to engine size, always an option.

Free lunch? Caviar? :)

1. :D So it charges it aswell?
2. Not long enougth ?isn't the glovebox closer than the center hatch?Either is cool tho
3.So how do i know if my car's got DSP.
4.Oh cool so my Carver is an Option :D :D 10 speakers yay :D I must admit it's rather good system ..much better than my Harmon Kardon in my old E36 and even a few of those Harmon Kardons in E46 M3's..

So where's the best/cheapest place to get one of these intravee's? I think you should sell me your's and throw in the fitting PVR.. :P

1. Yes
2. The CD changer cable is under the centre console, just long enough to get to the place where I put mine. No way it reaches glove box.
3. Your car is 2003 I think , so yes - DSP. Facelift was analogue.

Only place I know of is either second hand form adverts, like on x5drivers.co.uk I see them quite often, otherwise new from www.toysinmycar.com

How about ... no :D

Cool,This is the same to fit as an AUX? plugs in the same place?
£140...Bit steep..Migth wait for a 2nd hand one.

Strange thing is my mates got a AUX output on his golf mk5 into his glove box..he just plugs it in his ipod and operates on his standard controls? Why can't BMW do this?

Yes my car is a 2003? DSP i take it is better than analogue i take it?

Come on mate..theres a big mac meal with your name on it..lol

Aux does not charge anything .... Aux in glovebox is £40 and an hour work.

DSP is a bit of a pain actually, think you need an A-D convertor for that for the Intravee to work.

Big Mac? More of a caviar and truffle man :D
