Intravee install

Firstly apologies because I know that there are multiple threads on this and also a mention in the frequently asked questions however I am really confused after reading and the easiest way is probably just to ask because I am hoping that somebody else has had to do the same thing

It is for a 2006 Z4MC which already has nav, DSP and a changer though the changer may not be original fitment and is currently faulting hence the decision to go intravee

I want to install an intravee and ipod that i can charge and leave connected - I am assuming that I will then be able to control it through the navigation screen

I want to try to order everything at once but I have read the depending on certain connectors I may need certain different leads and that's what's causing the confusion

Is there an easy way for me to check so that I know which lead I need in advance? Also does anybody have just a list of what I will need -- for example will I definitely need to change or remove the changer? I see mention of an Alpine unit -- do you have to swap out the existing CD changer for that or can you do away with a CD changer altogether?

Thanks in advance

You need the Intravee II and a Alpine KCA-420i for facelift models even with DSP.

Regarding the CD Changer you will need to disconnect only, and as you have the lesser coupe model you can get the boot bulkhead carpet up easily and mount everything on the bulkhead and just feed the iPod cable through to the desired location.

If you're fitting it properly, install it with the serial cable permanently attached so that you can update it or get at the command line interface without pulling everything apart again. Intravention recommended this cable which wasn't the cheapest but worked first time and had a cover on the USB connector so it keeps it nice and clean.

sorry for a hijack thread but i think my post on sat nav upgrade is answered here. is the intravee the only way to connect an iphone? it certianly seems to work well for the ipod but its not cheap when you factor in the two units. is it still available as i read it wasnt.

i read on another bmw forum a fitting guide for this i cant think where now but im sure i will find it in a mo. it was very good.

does the intravee alow a decent phone interface. fitting looks stright forward but im worried it might scew up something. does it completely take out the autochanger as the others i have seen seem to do this.

An Intravee is a "gateway device" that plugs into the iBus and allows you to connect AiNet Alpine devices like the KCA-420i Pod adaptor. That combo will allow you to connect your iPhone and use it's iPod functionality but it won't allow you to do phone calls, for that you still need a bluetooth adaptor. If you use an iPhone 4S it won't charge without an adaptor. If you don't have bluetooth in the car already then you could add a Parrot, or you might be better off with a Dice unit that does the iPod, Bluetooth etc all in one unit.

Brilliant - (though I noticed my typo above which is quite laughable - I have an z4MR not the lesser z4MC lol - subconcious slip perhaps?!)
So I need the intravee 2, the alpine adapter, the above cable - anything else? Is the above adapter instead of the alpine cd changer i see mentioned?

this is the fitting guide i found if its of any help to you. it seems straight forward and ALOT less hassle than one i read about going in from the front

What model Alpine CD changer do you have installed? If it's not a BMW compatible unit it won't work properly.

The Intravee replaces the CD Changer (and appears as the Changer, Disc 1 in the Nav). You take the two CD Changer cables and plug them into the Intravee. The only challenge I had was getting the iBus cable out of the changer. One cable from their to the Alpine KCA, plus the serial cable and one from the KCA to the iPod.

In a Roadster, the Intravee will fit behind the bulkhead carpet quite happily. I didn't have room for the Alpine box so I've put it in the back left corner of the boot, between the turret and the bulkhead using heavy duty Velcro to hold it in place an to allow it to be removed without damaging anything.

Using clips to hold the carpet up and out of the way is sensible, and the clips that hold the carpet in place are easily broken but easily replaced. markeg posted some useful pics on page 2 of this thread

Looking at this pic from that thread, I had an electronics box where he's put his Alpine unit, but my Intravee is located in the same place.
