Intravee II - Installation to Z4 M Roadster

All,

Apologies as this is a repeated question and I've googled it lots and just found the same dead ends multiple times!

I am picking up my Z4 MR next Saturday and ordered the Intravee II alongside the Alpine iPod converter until yesterday - plan is (with help of a technically minded friend) to install this next Sunday....

Here is what I know (or think I know) so far:

- Need to install from the front by taking out the centre console.
- Car has upgraded Loudspeaker but not DSP - this makes the installation easier.
- No CD changer fitted, so the cabling should be sat there and plenty of room?
- Car has NAV etc. but that shouldn't get in the way.

Here is what I'm looking for answers to:

- Does anybody have a full how to guide with pictures? Plenty that seem to go half way, or where the pictures are no longer available.
- Will I have to do anything to the Intravee when I first get it? Or is it simply a case of plug and play?
- Which parts do I need to leave in an accessible spot? (iPod clearly - but what about the intravee?) It would be idea to have these items in the centre console, will the cable from the Alpine unit reach?

Again sorry for this, I really did try and google all available resources but they either led me further down the wrong route...

I did this and it is an ars3 of a job. Really not much fun at all, or it certainly was not in my car. Fiddly uncomfortable work.

There are a fair few threads on here if you search but nothing really definitive with a how to guide.

Basically you need to remove the centre storage assembly complete with the lid. Once you have this out, then remove the bottom cubby hole below the nav computer as this is where you will put the intravee.

I think you will need to remove the bulkhead panel in the boot so therefore have to remove the battery cover, battery and the bulkhead carpet so you can get at everything from behind.

On my car the CD changer cables were taped back down the loom so you could not get at the plugs from the front. I would not have been able to do the job if I had not removed everything from behind as well to give access and install the Alpine KCA, work cables nicely, etc.

I installed the Alpine KCA behind the bluetooth unit on the bulkhead, to the left of the centre. I cut a hole in the plastic cubby and passed the CD changer wires through and then installed the Intravee in the bottom plastic cubby. I can therefore easily access the intravee if I need to. The alpine cable is fairly long so there is no issue between the Alpine and the intravee or Ipod.

The CD changer cables on my car loom did not have much slack and it was therefore a bit of a stretch to get them into the cubby and plugged into the intravee.
 
I have one installed in my car that PVR fitted - he's got pics, not sure he did a complete how-to but I'm sure he'll provide any additional advice to the above :thumbsup:

The issue - as I understand it as I did not install the one in my car - is the battery making it really hard to get behind the carpet. In my 3.0 I installed it in the boot behind the carpet with a cable permanently attached. My problem in theM was routing the cable from the centre cubby to the point where my phone mount is... But i managed to sort that because I am a persistent bugger with no regard for the skin on my knuckles
 
Thanks all for the notes above - some of those links are extremely helpful and fill in the gaps! Apologies for not getting on here to show my appreciation before but work has been frantic!!

The Intravee has now arrived and I get the car on Saturday :thumbsup:

(Do I need to plug the Intravee into a laptop before I do anything else?)
 
The Intravee is in.

What a complete PITA of a job. I have some pictures etc. which I will put up as part of a write up.

Now I need to learn how to use the thing....how do you go back up a level? I'm stuck in albums!!!
 
Depends how your buttons are programmed. I have buttons 1-5 set for playlists 1-5 and button 6 for main menu. I can't remember if that is the default or if I set like that because my Dension worked that way.
 
Press the right button for about 5 seconds, that will always go back to home then.
 
Thanks - I will try that later on! Then need to check firmware and other settings.

Whilst a bit of a pain to fit, it does seem like an excellent piece of kit!
 
Got my head around it all last night sat on the driveway - all sorted now; thanks for all the advice :)

I will say though that my PDC isn't working properly, just one long beep when I engage reverse. Sounds like first claim under the AUC warranty!
