Internet websites

As you do while browsing the net you start searching for things that you may want to look at or buy.
I had never seen this before until last week and again just a few minutes ago.

There are queues to get onto websites!
I tried to get onto B&Qs website and it said there was a 51 minute wait.
Cant remember the others last week. When did this start happening?

All DIY stores have this now, have you tried buying paint? I was looking for Cuprinol protector and every single seller has either closed down (ebay) or out of stock (has the whole world been buying this stuff?).

I am at a loss why all companies that formerly shipped fine now have decided to close shop altogether for an undefined time.

Not tried B&Q, but have been buying bits and bobs off fleabay without any bother. I did notice the shipping times have gone out abit but other that than things seem pretty normal, considering whats going on, for the items I have been buying. Jenolite rust killer, touch up paint kit for my daily shed, USB leads, headlight bulb for one of the MX5s. All available all arrived within a week. :D

Screwfix is the store I frequent the most, picked up some bits there just as this was kicking off. Not been back since. I can imagine many people have been getting the DiY and the garden ship shape, so not really a surprise that they are snowed under.

It will change things for some companies. Some garden centres for example around here have stepped up and are shipping their products now which seems very successful, and other ones of the same size have been on TV moaning that they are losing 100k worth of stock as they can't sell it, but are not shipping.

It's mostly around that they are now click and collect only, so they can only fulfil a certain volume of orders.....hence the website queue.

As above most places are click and collect only Halfords is no prob I ordered a battery charger and could have it delivered or C&C but I also tried to get on B&Q last Sat I was 292351 in the que  luckily i had enough paint left to do the whole garage

No, they are working to social distancing rules so all strictly above board. Actually encouraged by the government to keep the economy going.

Got a great old-fashioned hardware store in Attleborough. Ring them up, tell them what you want, pay by card, they give you a time to be at their back door. Ring the bell, step back into the box (hell I'm going to miss all these boxes) and they bring out what you ordered.
Picked up a tin of silver smoothrite yesterday to do the hubs on the Z. Easy-peasy.

I don’t understand how a pot of paint from b and q is classed as a basic necessity under the lock down rules

It probably isn't, but I'm sure I read somewhere it was so people could buy things like cistern ball-valves, tap-washers, wood to fix blown down fences, etc. which are essential when you can't get tradesmen out.

But there is no distinction between what is and isn't essential. A bit like in Tesco which is open because it sells food, but you can buy a T-shirt, bed sheets or towels too!

There are loads of things that are not essential but if too much is stopped people will not have anything to fill their time and may end up doing worse things, like going to the park or the beach.

We decided as B&Q was open, to do some garden titivating.
Wanted to erect a trellis screen to mask off the water butts in the corner.

Rang up to order and book a collection slot.
Yes, we can get the nails, the posts and the post support spikes, as they're all one man lifts.
But we cannot have the trellis panel as it is 6 feet long and therefore is a two man lift.
However, that is slightly less than 2 metres so two men cannot be sufficiently separated to carry it.
It weighs about 10lbs. :headbang:

So if anyone looks over my fence they'll still be able to see my butt

Should have told them to tip it and carry it by opposite corners!

Mate, this was Thetford! The bloke with the brain cell was furloughed!

Just to update this, my local B&Q store is now open to browse and purchase stuff (West thurrock). I believe they've implemented the same social distancing things that supermarkets have. I'll be visiting tomorrow to get some bits to finish off my porch I've been decorating.

OK so I went to B&q, parked up, got out of the car, saw the huge queue, then jumped straight back in the car and drove home 8) it must have been at least 100 people long

In comparison, I ordered some things from Screwfix and I spent 5 minutes queueing to pick my order up. Must better service there.
