internal lock pull handles replace or paint?

Has anyone been able to sand and pain the internal lock pull door handles? Not the actual handles themselves, but the lock pull you grab to get out. Mine has lost a bit of paint on both sides and looks fugly. Replacement cost in AUS is $300 give or take
Doesn't look that hard to sand and paint, but taking it apart might be a PITA with springs and all?

No springs involved. From memory there is only one pin holding the lever in place and it's quite easy to remove. Removing the plastic cap, covering the screw, without damage will be the hardest part
