I have a 2003 E85 3.0 (auto) Z4 convertible.
As the title suggests, I have an intermittent idle issue;
From cold, the car starts first time, every time - with a very quick crank before firing up. It then idles around 1,100 rpm for a few seconds before returning to around 900rpm.
If I allow the engine to warm sufficiently and drive somewhere, once I've stopped and waited circa 30 mins which allows the engine to slightly cool - when restarting the car, it takes 2-3 seconds to actually fire up and then has a rough idle - around 900rpm - and the EML and the adjacent orange light (CEL?) is also illuminated. It also smells of fuel for a few seconds, but I assume that's from the fuel being pumped through without the engine starting?
If I blip the throttle, the idle instantly returns to the 1,100rpm 'cold start' for a few seconds, the lights go out and then it slowly lowers to 900rpm. I have tried fault code reading whilst it isn't idling correctly, but no abnormal fault codes appear that are relevant.
The only real steps I have taken so far are to replace the spark plugs, which were in decent condition upon removal and has not made an impact to the idle issue. I've tried searching, but most of the results are for a constant rough idle like a misfire etc. Any help would be appreciated!
Here is a (poor) video showing the rough idle - it's almost as if the car forgets it needs to idle a little higher for a few seconds.
