very nice work.

was the polishing to get rid of swirls/defect or just to make the paint look good?

what polishes, pads, machine etc did you use?

Nice backdrop of Eglinton there :D

How did u manage to get right into the grounds, didnt think u could drive rt in that far??
Shiney looking z  :driving:

Nice

This is one of the most difficult colours to photograph, as the car "in the flesh" never looks like the colour in a picture.

I have a porter cable and use 3M SUPERFINA and 3m pads, follwed by 3m finishing glaze then about 6 very thin coats of dodo juice purple haze pro.
The car still has quite a few swirls but with this colour all you have to do is look at it the wrong way and it marks.I just dont see the point in going for 100% correction as it would be nigh on impossible to maintain.
Anyway if you can see the swirls you are looking tooooooo close

i have a porter cable and started to give the car a good polish the other day, after about half the car one of the pads started to rip apart so i stopped.

i was using poorboys swirl remover at the time and didnt manage to get the car fully finished so it looks sh1t at the mo.

how long do your pads tend to last? my guess is that these were just cheap and nasties even though i bought them from a pro detailing shop :(

i have black so not looking to get rid of all of the swirls as it would take forever, a finish like yours would be great!

My pads are all as new, all of them. Have used them for years now and clean them after each use. Ripping apart - never ever had a pad go on me yet.

I was suprised when i saw it start to happen, and after only half the car!

it was the backs of them that started to go, around the velcro backing pad. i had wrapped insulation tape round the backing pad (tip from DW) just to stop the velcro harming the pad and it still happened. they must just be crap.

pvr, do you use 3m pads?

anyone know the best place to get them?

oh and sorry for the hijack

I have never had a 3m pad go yet either.
I usually get mine off ebay or off Detailing world.
The 3m stuff is a bit more expensive but i think it is very good quality.
Have you tried the purple haze pro or blue velvet pro on your black z4?.
I can really recommend it on dark coloured paint.

i havent tried anything yet really, it was about to be my first go at a thorough polish.

i have done the more domestic kind of polish - clay and megs 3 step, but nothing with the porter cable yet.

i must admit that pad put me off a little but im putting it down to bad quality rather than user error :P . ill go on ebay and look for some 3m stuff. can anyone recommend what colour cutting and polishing pads i should use. i was told orange to cut and yellow to polish by the guy in the shop but he has now lost my trust!

my list of things to use on the car was: wash thoroughly, clay, rinse, poorboys swirl remover with cutting pad, AG SRP with polishing pad, dodo juice pre wax polish with seperate polishing/finishing pad, then some layers of megs gold class.

a bit of a mix of products i know but based on what iv read and been recommended i ended up with that combo. please please put me right if im about to make a hash of my car! :P

The best advice i can give you is TAKE YOUR TIME.
I took the best part of 2 days to get mine looking the way it does today, but that is mainly
due to leaving time for the wax etc to dwell between coats.
I used to be too keen to batter on some wax then buff it off straight away.
I know this might not suit a lot of people but i can vouch for it working, also dont see anything wrong with the
products you are using but did you know you can get panel pots of most of the dodo juice range for round about £8??.
I buy them from detailing world or opie oils have just started selling them. The panel pots look tiny but i have waxed my z4,the wifes honda and my old mans bmw several times
and still have plenty left.

no ill take a look at that.

i was planning on taking about 2-3 days for the whole process wit the car in a clean space.

my effort was cut short by the pad tearing and i couldnt find an open shop to get a replacement so i had to give up. i have some time off work in the next week or two so im going to give it another go.

i usually leave the wax on for around 15-20 mins before i buff and add another coat, againa DW tip i read :)

what supplier do u usually use on DW?
